Does anyone have any helpful ideas of ways to afford or get assistance in receiving Lantus once you fall into the donut hole?

Find the nearest federally funded community health center

Ask them if they have an affiliated Community Health Pharmacy. When I had to buy my NovoLog out of pocket, I got it through my local Community Health Center's Pharmacy and it was $11 for 3 vials. I asked for prices on other diabetes meds. They quoted me Lantus Solostar at 60.14 and Lantus vials at 33.99. If they don't have a pharmacy, ask about any RX programs they know of. They may be able to help you apply for assistance.

Good luck

Check with your state programs for prescription assistance. IL has a circuit breaker program for people with low income. They also have a program for medical insurance for disabled people who are employed.

I am inquiring for my husband. He has a Freestyle Lite meter. When he goes into the donut hole his Lantus kills us. If we didn't have a house payment to make I would almost be better off to quit my job so he could get on the assistance program through Medicare! That is a sad state of affairs!

Yes it is a sad state of affairs. I thought the new medical legislation was supposed to close the donut hole.

Has that even taken effect yet? Tobar, have you tried contacting the company that makes Lantus to find out if they might be able/willing to help? Worth a try as the worst they can do is say no.
