11 1/2 years ago received diagnosis of type 1 controlled by insulin and exercise. I take long and short acting insulins. It has been a struggle keeping my levels consistent over the years. In Dec of 09 I went DKA and was hospitalized for 4 days. Developed complications spent 2010 on disability. Just came home from 5 day stint in hospital were they were saying I am type 2?

Very confused at this point, unfortunately due to my inability to control my levels I have caused some problems that cannot be reversed.

Any suggestions would be helpful

My GP told me that I might be developing insulin resistance after living with my type 1 diabetes since 1976. I guess, as we age, we type 1's may develop some of the same problems as type 2's with fewer or lazy insulin receptors on our cells. Maybe that is what is happening to you? My suggestion would be to consult with a board certified endocrinologist specializing in diabetes. They have a broader knowledge and experience to diagnose and provide you with an effective action plan. I finally saw an endo in December and it has been a lifesaver…literally. I found my GP was way off base in my treatment.

Howdy Maurice. WELCOME to DiabeticConnect!

I really think that this is not something with which medical laypersons can help to answer. Drs can with a blood test. I think it is called a c reactive protein test. Only the Drs could give you a definitive answer, the BEST anyone could do here is make an educated (or uneducated) guess.

Praying you get an answer and get your Blood Glucose levels under control.
