Low Start To The Day.

Woke up this morning feeling a little strange. Tested my BG. Yikes!!! 56!!!Remembered a recent discussion where someone mentioned 1tsp of honey helped them out with lows. My husband had bought some honey yesterday. I added 1 to 2 tsps t my cornflake, sunflower seed, cashew and almond milk concotion. Worked like a charm I was 99 30 minutes later. 106 at 1hr. 97 at 2 hrs. Wasn't until 2 hrs after eaing that I remembered I actually have some OJ in the fridge. It is rarely on hand. Besides I had been craving the taste of honey for a few weeks.

Awesome! I will have to keep that in mind.. I keep juice boxes on hand for that sort of thing too. I had a moment a few weeks ago when my BP got out of hand and when I called my mom she reminded me to check my sugar. Sure enough I was right about 50, and she said go get juice now. It brought it up in like 15 or 20 minutes and my bp came back in line with it.. Now I know that the heart racing is part of my lows, and I have another tool (knowing about the honey) to add to the arsenal! Thank you!

I have been meaning to get some juiceboxes.
Your Mom sounds more helpful than my Mom (AKA The Cake Lady). I am the first person with diabetes my Mom has really had to deal with. Last Tuesday Night her supper for us Girls was almost all carbs - scalloped potaoes and ham, corn, mandarin oranges in regular Jell-O, dinner rolls, and fresh baked cookies. After our walk she offered us all ice cream bars. She was surprised I turned down the ice cream.
I have never checked my BP to see how it is when I am low or high. I never really thought about how it might be acting.
Today I remembered I have glucose tablets on my nightstand. Forgot they were there yesterday.

OH how I would LOVE the taste of RAW honey again, (not the over heated over processed stuff they sell in the stores). Maybe when I go back to my family in a day or 2 they might have some of that raw honey still around from the days we kept bees. I grew up eating honey on my cornflakes. We didn't know what sugar on cereal was. Boy was I ever deprived as a kid (NOT!).

I am glad you got that low taken care of expediciously. Of course honey is not the best (= fastest acting) carb for raising BG levels, since honey is mainly fructose and fructose is slower acting than sucrose. But it did get the job done for you, and that's the most important thing.

Have you determined why you woke up with a low?

It was my fault. I worked Sat 10 PM to 6AM. Then was back to work at 2 PM to 10 PM on Sun. After I got off work last night I ate a light meal. Then about 1 AM I had a baked sweet potato. They usually drop my BG. I planned on having some cheese or nuts. Instead I fell asleep. Woke up and was surprised it was about 20 lower than I thought it would be since I hadn't had some protein with the sweet potato. Luckily I had indulged in some of my husbands cheese puffs for a few extra carbs earlier.
This honey was a blend of India, Canada, Argentinia, and Viet Nam honeys. Used to enjoy cornflakes, honey, cinnamon, and ice cream.
