i am a type 1 diabetic. my bg levels are very unpredictable. it doesnt seem to matter if i do or dont eat or drink, or if ive had nothing to eat or drink, when i check my bg it it often so high that all my glucometer says is "hi." does anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions on how to get things on track?

I can totally relate!! I just posted this similar problem about 5 mins ago "bad diabetic"…going to my endo in a month, maybe time for an insulin pump?

Howdy Mona!
There are a lot of things which might cause that for a t1. You might not be getting enough insulin, or eating too many carbs for your insulin load, are things which spring to mind just off the top of my head.

Without specific information it is rather useless to speculate. What is clear is that you do have a serious and perhaps life threatening problem. From all the glucometers that I have used, when it reads "hi" it generally means that your BG reading is somewhere ABOVE 600!

Do you have Ketostix to check your ketones? With continously high BG readings, you are in danger of Diabetic Ketoacidosis ("DKA") which possibly could be fatal.

Please take care of yourself Mona! Perhaps if you can't get your BGs under control, you should consider going to the ER to get your insulin adjusted.

Praying for you

PS: friendly glucometer you have there! says "Hi" LoL!
