Hi everyone. I just joined the community after coming across a link on the Diabetes Mine blog.

I am in the very early stages of evaluating the OmniPod tubeless pump system by Insulet. I wondered if anyone on here was using it and what their impressions were. At this point, I think my primary concern is with the out-of-pocket expenses involved. I have employer-provided health coverage through Empire Blue, but I have not yet spoken with a rep about what would be covered. I will be going in for a "pre-pump assessment" in the next couple of weeks.

I have never used a pump system (using pen injections currently) as I haven't been able to get around the thought of being attached to something with tubes all the time. The OmniPod has piqued my interest primarily due to the fact that it has no tubing. The one thing that's kind of a turn-off about the OmniPod is that you have to fill the pods yourself. I was really happy to get away from syringes and vials when I moved to the Humalog and Lantus pen systems and can't say I'm all that sold on having to take that step back.

Any thoughts, experiences, etc. would be very helpful.

It's awesome. I started using it 2 months ago, and my A1C levels went down from 7,2 to 5,7. Besides that, the convenience of not having to inject myself is great. I did lots of water skiing and excersise this summer, and bever had a problem with the pod getting wet. That is another plus.
My insurance covers 80% (Altius), so it's not too bad.
It is my first experience with a pump, so I cannot compare with other pumps, but hope this helps.

I've been a pump user for over 10 years and I'm also very interested in this piece of equipment. Lack of tubeing would be a great boon to me and I also like the fact that I can swim with it. I will also make dressing easier,I can get away from 2 piece outfits. I am also anxious to talk with someone who has any experience with this new device
