What will you be doing for July 4th?

Yes, it's coming this weekend. (actually next Monday)

Will you go picnicing? Or go to the park? Making special foods? If you live near a lake, or ocean, or some water outlet will you go swimming?

Are you going to watch the fireworks? Or will you spend a quiet time at home?

Do you have a special traditon, that you do for this holiday?

Our small town will be holding our fireworks on Sunday. After we have our local parade through town, we go to the park. I normally pack a small picnic lunch, with some snacks. The grandchildren come and they play on the swings and other things in the park until the fireworks.

So do you do anything special with your family? Share your day.

working than doing fireworks at night

are you "doing fireworks" as I did for a couple of 4ths several years ago, where the local volunteer FD put on a fireworks show in our little town.

I was on the Fire Dept, and so got to handle the big fireworks and load the launch tubes. Had a couple of close calls when a shell went off prematurely in the launch tube. Fortunately the tube was buried in the ground so most of the impact was absorbed without producing shrapnel.

It does scare a fella when something like that happens.

Chances are that by the time the fourth comes around I wouldve ran out of my insulin, so i dont know what Ill be doing. So far Im out of my lancets, as well as my anti-depressants and my heart medications. Ive been trying to find a solution to my job situation but its kinda hard to feel like celebrating when your world is crumbling around you.

re1ndeer 2011-07-01 13:09:56 -0500 Report

I'm so sorry, about your situation. Is it possible in your area to go to a free clinic and see if they could supply you meds and things for awhile while you get on your feet. Contact your local health department today, and see if they can help you now, explain to them what is going on. Most places will be closed on Monday and you need your medication before that. Good luck to you.

wrmjw1 2011-07-02 09:11:48 -0500 Report

Most places are too far away for me, since I dont drive and I dont have any money for the bus, Im just pretty much outta luck. I tried calling my sister but she can only give me so mcuh and then since miondays the holiday, Im gonna have to wait until wednsday to get my supplies. I have a doctors appointment that day so I figure I can get some of my meds, along with getting copies of all my doctors visits and tests for my disability hearing. I also have to get rated through the hospital system again so hopefully I can be able to get everything taken care of by then. The down side is that I cant check my sugar at all, Ive got insulin but I dont know if it will last me til wednsday. the other problem is my lightheadedness, I called a nursing hotline and they said the best thing for me to do is to get to the hospital asap, I couldnt because like i said before, i dont drive and I couldnt get busfare. I hate this diabetes thing alot.

we're going to a nearby beach to see fireworks on the 3rd and hopefully, on the 4th that night to my husband's grandmother's nursing home, where they will have them. His parents always see to it that his grandmother gets out on holiday and other times too, to visit at their house with all of us. It's SO hot here, we don't do much outside during the day, until late afternoon. We just had the hottest June on record. I don't do too well in the heat. Hope everyone has a fun, safe, and happy 4th of July weekend!!

eristar 2011-07-01 07:03:38 -0500 Report

Our fireworks are on the 3rd, and we will go, weather permitting. Then our parade is on morning of the 4th, after which I plan to veg out and read all afternoon!

It's my favorite holiday. I think that my friends and family will do the picnic thing. Go to a park, have some fun, play a few games let the kids nap before the fireworks. It's usually potluck. So for myself, they all know that I only eat salads, but I will make what they call "her famous pasta salad." It has everything that a diabetic shouldn't have. All the fat, calories, cholesterol, sodium (the F.C.C.S. of the nutritional world) that no one should have. But once a year, it's no biggie. I don't eat it, but they all love it. We all enjoy the day, and too soon, it's all over until next year. As well as missing my fiance` who's fighting in Afghanistan. But because of him and everyone else who is serving our country we get to celebrate in the land of the free. Because of the brave.

Thanks for responding. And when you see your fiance` or here from him, please let him know that we are very thankful for his service over there," For giving us Freedom."

I will be doing my major 4th event on Sunday July 3rd with my church as we are sponsoring a community wide picnic with free hamburgers, hotdogs, homemade ice-cream and cookies. Also offering inflatables and games for families to enjoy. We will end the evening with fireworks. Hopefully on Monday I can just rest but most likely I will be trying to get the pool clean and other major chores done as we are having a family get together on Saturday the 9th and we are still way behind in getting things ready. Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable 4th.

How wonderful for your church to hold a picnic, with free food, for the families in your town. Have a most enjoyable holiday.

Usually the in-laws visit for the 4th weekend. This year they are a couple of weeks later, so we're going to a party at the home of one of my husbands' racquetball buddies. I think BBQ, beer and basketball is the theme.

This year we are having what you may call a block party. We have our street coming and everyone is bringing something, plus we have a few other people coming too. Looks like we will have about 50 or more people over on the 4th. It should be a really good day. I stayed home least year. I got to be strong and stay away from all the homemade baked goods that are being brought.

This year will be a bit different as our oldest daughter, husband and our 3 grandsons, usually come for the weekend..and we decorate their bikes and they go in the Fourth of July huge parade that has been going on since i was born…all my brothers and sisters were in it as kids, and then our kids were, and now our grandkids. But Meredith and the boys won't be down this year…so, we'll just be sitting, watching the parade surrounded by dozens of my cousins, and sibs.
Younger daughter Ashley has been out of town this week for business, and will be home on Friday.
We will have all the usual favorite foods…including red/white/blue jello mold, and R,W,&B Potato salad! LOL!
Best part is seeing lots of family at the parade…sometimes it's the only time we cousins see each other..unless there is a funeral. So it's a good time.
Hope every one has a great holiday! God Bless the USA onher Birthday!

Thank you for your reply, nice to see others who used to decorate bikes, and go in the parade, I did that as a little girl (many moons ago). Hope you enjoy the holiday.

It's the one holiday that I see a LOT of relatives and friends that I don't get to see often. Big cookout at Mom's & Dad's. And cooking all kinds of foods! Potato Salad, deviled eggs, chourico & peppers, of course the fruit basket, and a seafood soup that my sister has been begging for since last year!! lol Then the fajita marinated chicken breasts, dogs & burgers, cream cheese stuffed celery and carrot sticks, and whatever anyone else is bringing!!! Mom's baked beans, yummmm…will be glad I have my insulin on Monday!! LOL Maybe a water balloon fight with the kids?! UUMMmm maybe! LOL Then taking the kids (grandkids & nieces & nephews) to see the fireworks behind the Newport Bridge!! Anyway you look at it will be fun!! Hope you have a great day too! This actually will be the first time I didn't have a job to go to. But I'm SURE I'll be working at the grill!! Ellen :)

I get to stay home and do whatever I want to. We hardly ever make plans, we just do what we want to. Our son and his fiance are coming home for the weekend, it's the first we've seen them since the engagement so we are looking forward to it. We'll probably seen our daughter and her husband and the granddaughters, that's the best part.

I get to start celebrating on Friday with fireworks at the Rockies Game. I unexpectedly got the night off, a co worker needed last Sunday off so traded with me, he picked the day. About 50 family and friends go most years and I thought I would have to miss this year due to work. Then on the 4th I plan on watching the Denver area fireworks from a scenic overlook that hubby and I found last year. We enjoyed the view of about 7 or so area displays.

re1ndeer 2011-06-28 13:10:51 -0500 Report

Thanks for your reply. Good for you that you got to trade with someone to enjoy the holiday. And to celebrate at a Rockies Baseball game, how wonderful. You have your weekend planned out. Enjoy the holiday.

We normally go to the parade and a picnic afterwards, this year I will be at home, because hubby has to work on the 4th of July. He drives a commercial trash truck and with everyone out at the fast food places trash has to go. The only days he gets off for a holiday is Thanksgiving and Christmas anymore. However we are thankful he has a job there are so many people out of work.

My mother has a cookout at the house every year, so my family and I will be together. My boyfriend and I will probably go see fireworks on the 3rd.

This weekend is the 2 year anniversary of when I went into a coma.. I got rushed to the hospital on the 3rd and they put me in a coma on the 4th. So it's an extra special celebration for me.. The 3rd is going to be really emotional and kind of sad, but I won't be alone.. So, hopefully I can keep my mind off of it and my hands out of my hospital box. Last year I spent the day crying and reading get well cards and the notebook my family kept for me while I was asleep..
