I'm in the middle of fighting off pneumonia. Are there any tips you can give me for how this will affect my diabetes?

I know that my BG will be elevated—I've already seen that. But my appetite is poor and I don't know how to balance it with feeling so rotten!

At the beginning of the year I had an upper respiratory infection. I could barely stand the thought of eating. I know I like power aid. What I did was sip on sugarfree power aid all day. I tested several times a day. I also had the hubs get me some regular poweraid. When my numbers got sort of low I'd drink about 8 ounces of regular poweraid . The rest of the time I drank sugar free poweraid. It worked beautifully . Hope you feel better soon.

Hi, hope you will soon feel better. If you are coughing up stuff, to make it easier, you can do steam inhalation - put hot water in a small bowl, you can add a little drop of peppermint or eucalyptus oil or menthol crystals and place a towel over your head and breath deeply. Steam should not feel like it's going to burn your face, that would scorch your airways. Try to not lie down too much, but remain as active as you can be, that will help you throw it off more quickly too. (I'm a Physical therapist, so if you need more tips, let me know.)

I haven't had to deal with a major illness plus diabetes yet, and I'm not a medical professional, but I know you are supposed to stick to your meal plan as best you can. At least get your required carbs. If you can't really eat, it may be the time you sip on a 7 Up, or eat mashed potatoes, or nibble on saltines. Maybe nap sitting up in front of the TV and drink lots of fluids. Have you been to your doctor to see if antibiotics would help? Good luck.
