Hi. I am16, and have had type 1 diabetes for nearly 11 years. I wanted to know if anyone else has had issues with proteins and other free foods. Over the past couple of years I have noticed that my body seems to react to proteins sort of like carbs. If I eat over 10 grams of protein I have to take an Extra unit of insulin. My doc says he hasn't seen or heard of anything like it. I even played with lean meats and going without meat entirely, but I sort of went into withdraws or something. It seems if I don't eat meats my blood sugar does better.
