:)Hello everyone,
I am new here and I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Brooke I am 28 years old, I have been a Type 1 diabetic since the age of 12. I started going to diabetes camp that same year and I saw this cute 16 year old counsler (he has been type 1 diabetic since the age of 7). Three years later he noticed me, we became friends and started dating shortly before I turned 18. We were married in 1998 and had our first child a year later in October of 1999. Sixteen months later she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Two years later we were told that my husbands kidneys were failing. Here we are 5 years later (and two more kids)and his kidneys are bad enough that we have been referred to the transplant team for a kidney-pancreas transplant. My husband takes a blood pressure medicine that masks the effects of low blood sugar so he has 4-6 seizures a year. The most recent one was last night (see my pics)other than all of that we are happy and love life even with all of our complications. I have not had any issues outside of difficult pregnancies and I am looking for a place to chat and find others that can relate. Anyone out there dealt with a kidney-pancreas transplant? Anyways I hope this isn't TMI. I also feel I am very knowledgable about diabetes and love to help people. I am available to chat on msn messenger if you would like or you can send me a message and I will help all I can. I'm not looking for sympathy just a few friends. Ok so I guess thats it.
Thanks

Brooke;
I have a Niece that has had Kidney trouble it seems for ever she is on a machine and on the waiting List. Our whole family is getting checked out I have already been told no as I have kidney problems now also. My dad died of Reno Cell Cancer in his left Kidney didn't realize that I could also end up with it so now they are watching me closely. Wish I could help a few people but it seems my body may not be able to help anyone in the end. I hope they are wrong. I am an Organ donor.

Brooke,

Hi, I'm Betty Jo.
Send me a message any time you want, I will answer as soon as possible. (after standing in line behind my daughter , her little boys, or whoever to get to the computer!)

I hope you have a good support system behind you. It sounds as though you will need some help.

The best of luck to you and your family. Here's a great big hug, right through my monitor and yours!

Writing is very good at relieving stress. Plus having the contact with other people is a tremendous help.

Take care, I will remember you in my prayers, and your family, of course.

Hi Brooke,

Welcome! I know some others who've had a kidney-pancreas transplant if you want some contacts.

Glad to hear that you'll be active here. You might also enjoy reading some of my stuff over at www.diabetesmine.com.

All the best,
AmyT
