Snacking is not right for everyone who has diabetes but some people, especially those that go more than 4-5 hrs between meals, snacks have a place on the menu. The trick is to choose healthy munchies.
Head back to the produce dept for pre-sliced, pre-washed carrot sticks. With all their fiber they can fill you up quick with very few calories.
Look for low-fat mozzarella sticks…this is low in carbs/moderate in fats.
Buy single serving boxes of raisins..makes sure you stick to small portion.
Go to nuts in moderation-almonds are good source of Vitamin E that may protect against kidney damage/eye and nerve complications.
Choose low-fat, whole grain crackers. Make sure they do not contain trans fats.
Buy granola bars, but choose carefully- easy to carry for emergency food.
Buy 100 calorie snack packs - these are portioned just right.
Skip fat free cookies -usually more sugar is added.
