Howdy Peg and WELCOME to DC!
Yes, Peg there ARE support groups around. I go to one in Las Vegas which meets monthly.

I googled diabetes support groups Austin TX and got this result: Happy Hunting, Peg!

May I make another suggestion, which may alleviate your lonliness a bit. You might want to find a place of worship which corresponds to your spiritual beliefs. There you may find like-minded people to be with and with which to make friends. You could also sign up for an adult education class or two. You might find them by asking at a local college or a library.

You might also signup for an account on and let meetup know what interests you and define how far you want to travel to go to a meeting and meetup will send you emails about happenings in your area which conform to your wishes.

There are a lot of different ways to get yourself out there and get involved in life. You can alleviate your lonliness in many ways.

I would recommend that you not only seek out support groups for diabetics but that you would broaden your horizons, because you don't want to be totally defined by the disease or condition of diabetes. I would think you may prefer to be a whole person with diabetes.

I am not defined by my disease. I am a whole human being who, among other things happens to have Diabetes.

Praying you will find your support group for diabetics, PLUS other groups of people with whom you can be friends.
