Hi, Everybody
I've recently started reading and doing an immense amount of research on natural remedies for diabetes. I firmly believe that since no one has come up with a medicine that cures diabetes that there's got to be a natural cure for it. It has a lot to do with metabolism and stuff like that. So, I'm learning.
I just got back from a trip to my local health food store 3 days ago. where I chatted with a person I've become friendly with. He also has Type 2, like I do. We talked again and he told me that he began taking something called banaba leaf (yes, B, not N) and that it's helping him control his BG. He's been using it for about 2 weeks and his BGs are way down. He said he's still taking his oral meds, though, but no insulin!
Well, I don't know about anyone else here, but I want to get off my diabetes meds entirely — oral, too. So, I bought some bamaba leaf and have started taking it three times daily with meals. For the past two days I have not had to take any meds. Of course, I am watching my diet very, very carefully, not having too much fruit, and having plenty of veggies and lean proteins. But no meds at all. I've also began walking and other exercise about 2 weeks ago and that helps.
Sometimes before this, my readings have been way over 200, sometimes close to 300, and now they're down to 122 and lower — for instance, 99 today!!!!!!!!!

HI Emma, Good for you…I do believe it took my body a little while to notice the exercise breakthrough with the diet and am this week at 5.9!! A1C and no meds. I started out at over 7..but then, I was fortunate to catch the diabetes before it had a hold on me, I think. I do exercise daily and eat so much better. My morning sugar was higher but with exercise over long period, has changed all that. And, I cook at home. We were going out all the time before much hidden salt, sugar and Fat! and fat also elevates sugar and cholesterol. I do believe that our society of restaurants do not do us any good. It would be nice to be able to go out and not have to search so hard to find a really good meal besides a salad with grilled chicken. With diabetes and other conditions people are getting, it would be wonderful for someone to go national on a nice restaurant that used Herbs and spices that were healthy! AND tasted good! ha

sounds like something to look into just have to be not use meds with it and check sugar regularly. I might try this thanks

I read about this earlier this year and decided to hold off looking further unless my numbers became too hard to control. It was a warning I had read, and I can't find that web-page again, but I did find this one that has a similar warning near the end:

Emma2412 2011-06-20 07:13:21 -0500 Report

Thanks for this info, but I've already seen a bunch of stuff about Banaba Leaf and my own experience so far with it is great.
I know that most people feel that the FDA is the "supreme commander" in deciding what we should and shouldn't do, but I don't. I think the FDA should be disbanded. They allow drugs on the market (like Actos) that give us serious bladder conditions and other drugs that cause heart attacks and cancer. They allow drugs on the market simply because somebody's paying them to allow them to be marketed at our expense. It's only after someone gets sick with the drugs that they allowed on the market in the first place that they do an abrupt about-face and remove it from the market. I have no idea why anyone listens to them.

GabbyPA 2011-06-19 09:44:11 -0500 Report

According to the warning, it seems that it would be on target to replace the glucose lowering drugs we take as combining it with those drugs could cause us to go low.

Emma2412 2011-06-20 07:09:55 -0500 Report

That's how I see the warning, too, Gabby. But, so far, I haven't had any hypoglycemic effects. At this point, however, I would love to have "effects" of 80 or 90 on a daily basis. That would be great!

Nonna2Three 2011-06-19 10:02:40 -0500 Report

I agree, and since I am able to maintain my target with Metformin I hate to mess with the success just yet. I figure this may be a better option for me when my body becomes a bit immune to the effects of the Metformin. I figure since we tend to build up a tolerance to most meds that it will happen sooner or later - hopefully later.

Here you go Emma, here is a discussion I had on this a while back.

There are a ton of things out there to learn about. I am trying to find my magic combination as well. You can find this extract in most "glucose control" blends at the health food store. Our answers are right out there, we just have to find them.

Emma2412 2011-06-18 10:57:45 -0500 Report

Yes, Gabby, I totally agree with you. We just have to get busy and find the answers. It might not be the same exact "cure" for everybody (maybe one person has to take more of something than the next person) but I firmly believe that God didn't give us a condition like diabetes without providing us with the "fix."

GabbyPA 2011-06-19 09:44:55 -0500 Report

What is the dose you are taking daily and how are you taking it?

GabbyPA 2011-06-20 08:37:23 -0500 Report

What is the dose of the capsule? If it is not on the front of the bottle it is in the nutritional label.

Emma2412 2011-09-27 10:11:52 -0500 Report

Hey, Gabby — I just came across your question here. I've looked on the label of the banaba leaf that I take and it says 250 mg in each banaba leaf capsule. So, I hope that answers your Q. The brand is Paradise, which I got from the health food store.

AuntieM234 2011-06-16 03:46:56 -0500 Report

Hey Emma: Check it out — when you began to take the banaba leaf, you also began doing what you should have been doing anyway … diet … exercise. Maybe your healthier lifestyle should get the credit and not the banaba leaf!? You need to be careful, though. Why not discuss this with your Dr. Its always a good idea to keep him/her in the loop! In any event … good job! Keep up the good work!

By the way, I've heard that cinnimon helps stabalize bs. Brew cinnamon tea with the sticks. Its not half bad. ;-) Mara

Emma2412 2011-06-18 11:01:41 -0500 Report

Well, my diet is not a "new" thing that I'm doing since I began taking the Banaba Leaf. I'm just continuing that. So, I doubt that you're right. Banaba Leaf extract has actions in stimulating glucose transport to cells which is where it belongs in the first place. Also, I began exercising two weeks ago, not since the Banaba Leaf regimen was started.

Where do you get this product and are you sure it is safe and most importantly how much does it cost? Someone told me about a product called sugarloaf but that only helps if your blood sugars are in normal range.

Emma2412 2011-06-18 11:11:18 -0500 Report

Hi, Infinity 1956
How are you today?
I get the Paradise Herbs & Essentials product called Banaba Leaf in my local health food store. It cost me $23.95. And, yes, it is safe.
Sugarloaf is not the same thing as this. Banaba Leaf extract has actions in stimulating glucose transport into cells (which is where it should be) and can help maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
It always seems odd to me when people take any kind of medicine that their doctor prescribes for them without worrying about the side effects (of which there are plenty) and yet shy away from natural supplements.
Don't you take a vitamin supplement every day? This is something like that, but specifically deals with getting the blood glucose into our cells.
I'm real glad that this product is having such a positive effect on me and that my readings are way down. It's been 4 days now that I have not had to take any diabetes med. Hurrah!

GabbyPA 2011-06-19 08:26:34 -0500 Report

Research is the key. We have to research what we put in our bodies, whether it be food, drink, vitamins, herbs or prescriptions. All of those things are to help our bodies work better, or not. It's up to us to find a lot of that out for ourselves, because I for one don't trust the FDA or many of the companies that are in government pockets.

Emma2412 2011-06-19 20:56:47 -0500 Report

I agree, Gabby, wholeheartedly. I've done lots of research and am continuing to do all kinds of research on supplements to help diabetics. There's tons of stuff out there but one has to be so careful.
I don't get any of these products online either simply because one can't know if it's fresh and without additives, and also shipping is always added. So, I always look locally for the products that I need or want.
And you certainly have it right about the FDA. I, for one, think they should be disbanded. I've heard so much negative about them that the minute I hear that they approve of something, I immediately put that product on my "do not buy" list.

Infinity1956 2011-06-18 12:17:50 -0500 Report

Hi Emma 2412 ! I hope you are doing well today , the product sound wonderful and

I'm going to get some when my funds let me. Thanks for sharing this information.

you are right about people also should be concerned about prescription meds as well.

I went to God first then I consult man's way because afterall God did bless all men

information flowing because the more a person kbnows the better he equipped man

Yes, Infinity, please let me know. That's very nice of you. I'm looking around locally, but have not found a cheaper price yet. I don't get any of this kind of thing on the Internet because of several reasons: (a) shipping costs; (b) impossible to tell if there's additives which I don't want; and (c) it's imipossible to tell if the product is fresh.

Infinity1956 2011-06-20 02:25:58 -0500 Report

Hi Emma ! I always call and make sure they check the product dates . but I called one store and she said about $ 35.00 dollars , That covers three of my prescriptionwith insulin, sdo I'm still shopping around and if I do not find it, I guess I have to break down and pay the & 35.00.

Thanks and have a great week.!

Thanks, Harlen, for the encouragement. I'm doing fine on this. It's been 4 days now since I've had to take any medicine. One day I went to a birthday party and had to take meds. when I got home, but the other days were fine just with the Banaba Leaf.

Great Job Emma! Please keep us posted as to your further progress.

Emma2412 2011-06-18 11:13:59 -0500 Report

Hey, thanks for the encouragement. This stuff is really, really helping me keep the BG levels in place. I was only 122 after a meal yesterday — and that meal had bread and corn in it.
Take care, my friend
