Today I went to my family doctor they put me on a high fiber diet no red meat for 3 days and I have to do a stool test for 3 days and then return it back to my family doctor. She mentioned something about the possiblity of colon cancer. It has me anxouix and a little nervous I am asking for everyone to keep me in prayer. I am beleiving God that I will not have to have a colonscopy done. and that I will not have cancer. I am only 27 years old and if they did find cancer that it would not be too late to start treatment and I would be okay. I do not even like the word cancer as a lot of my family had cancer and died young with all diffrent kinds of cancers

A colonoscopy is not horrible because you are sedated and when you wake up the colonoscopy is completed. The bad part is the fear we have about the procedure and then our own negative mental thoughts.
Will pray for you.

Hi Amy. You will certainly be on my prayer list and I will add you to the one at church. My son was your age when he found out he had cancer of the colon. They were able to take out the cancerous areas, and that was 10 years ago, and the Lord answered our prayers. I definitely believe in the power of prayers. Please keep us updated. If you need to talk, I'm a good listener. Take care of yourself and God bless you.

Lots of big hugs and prayers,

Dr Gary

Hi Amy, just wanted to let you know that my thoughts are with you. It's really hard to face the uncertainty of a potential medical diagnosis. But the tests will at least tell you if there is anything you need to be dealing with. It's better to know than not to know. Please keep us posted! Gary

What color has your stools been? Bright red is in the lower bowel called sigmoid. Usually turns out to be a internal hemi.,or polyp. Both can be handled. If it is dark maroon or coffee ground consistency it is high up in the bowel. Still could be polyp either way they can remove it. I'll tell ya my father always said—don't borrow any trouble until you know. However, it is easier to say don't worry but that is only human. We will all pray your procedure goes well. The occult blood test only tells if there is blood in the stool not cancer. The colonoscopy will determine that and if there is a problem they will take a snip of it (biopsy) and that tells the story.

Dear amyspeer: The test they perform with the stool sample (occult fecal) shows whether you have colon cancer now. If the occult fecal is negative, you should still have the colonscopy, as it is the sure way to determine whether you are currently in danger of having colon cancer. The colonoscopy enables the Dr to see and remove any pre-cancer polyps. You should have it done every five years, especially when you have a history of cancer in your family. My brother and I are the only two living out of a family of 7 siblings; all five having succumbed to some form of cancer, including one from colon cancer. I have had a colonoscopy 3 times; the first 2 times I had pre-cancer polyps, but this last time no polyps were found. There is no pain associated with having the test, but you have everything to gain! ;-) Mara

My prayers in agreement with yours Amy are ascending to the throne!

I was just to my gastro Dr an hr ago and I WILL have to have an endoscope next week and a colonoscopy in August.

Dear Friend Jayabee52 (James)! The colonoscopy is a snap … the endoscope not so much, so just know that, after the endoscope is over, the rest is all downhil! ;-) Mara

I've had both before, and the proceedures themselves were no problem, a snap, as you say, but I found the prep for the colonoscopy was a BEAR! (almost used another "b" word).

But now I got a phone call from the Dr (which went to voicemail) and he was concerned about my blood test values. We might postpone the endoscopy till we address what it was that concerned him. I didn't talk with him, but plan to call him about 11 AM to find out what he's so concerned about. It probably has to do with my kidneys which may be the next to go.
