I'm just curious if there is anyone on DC that might share my same situation! Anyone who was diagnosed with T1 as a child and then have a child that is diagnosed! I know that it is not all that common. I'm just wondering if there is anyone on here that may have that same situation and I could get to know and conversate with!

Hi Mandy. I don't have a child with T1, but my fahter was diagnosed with T1 as a young adult, and I am LADA. My brother and sister were also diagnosed as T1 as children.

HI…yes, I had untreated childhood diabetes since age 4, and I am 41 now. My father, who died of congestive heart failure at age 73, had years of untreated/undiagnosed diabetes. Him and I were both type 1 at the healthiest scale…we had little insulin production, and we both were very very brittle too. Every single female on my mom's side had/has type 2. My dad and I were both very very fortunate——we had some, very little insulin production, but not zero insulin production. Unfortunately, what happened to him and I is we both had early heart disease, bad bad gum lines, and extreme difficulty with very very very very erratic blood sugars. He had insulin in the hospital before he died, and I have had it in the hospital. We were/are rare jewels of type 1s though…most type 1s have no insulin production at all…him and I were both diagnosed later in life. Our pattern of diabetes was basically a carbon copy of one another…I'm glad I found someone else who had type 1 twice in the family. My grandmother on my mother's side is on insulin , but I am not sure if her's is type 2 or type 1. At any rate, my dad and I both were type 1…unfortunately, though, being that we both went untreated during our entire childhood, we both suffered from diabetic seizures for years, and we both bent over backwards to try to STARVE it out, excessive exercise…you name it, we both pretty much tried super super hard to do all that.
