I'm getting ready to go on vacation in just a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone has any tips for me on how to keep in control while traveling a long distance. We will be driving from the Puget Sound area of Washington to Southern California in July. While there will be taking grandson to a couple of amusement parks which will challenge my low carb diet. A little worried about how all the walking on those days will effect my BG. Any suggestions?

Hello Ruth
For me when I am going to travel there are things I muxt do to make the trip safe for me .
First I bring more meds then I need
2nd I bring the typ of snacks that I know will help me if I go low from running all over the place lol .I even keep them on the airplane.
3rd I test more then I do at home and I need too to the day of a real low is not a good day for me and I hate that on a hollyday .
remember to drink a lot of water .
Best wishes

I haven't gone low yet. The lowest reading I have had was an 80 but I haven't really been working out or excersing much. That is why, knowing I'm going to be doing a whole lot more walking than I normally do, has me concerned. But I am taking all my supplies with me and will make sure I have snacks available in the car for me if I need them. Thanks Harlen.

Howdy Ruth

The best thing I would suggest is keep your glucometer handy so you can keep track of what the trip is doing to your Blood glucose numbers. Without knowing how you are controlling your diabetes at home, I couldn't make further suggestions. Perhaps all the walking in the amusement park will offset the carb challenges.

Have fun with your grandson!

I'm trying to control it with diet and exercise. No meds as of now except for my bp and cholestrol meds.
