I understand your. I am in the same place right now. I have gone from 125 to 170. Its sort of like a locomotive out of control…LOL sometimes I can be such a mess…But I woke up today determined to get back on line. I have decided to put more effort into meal planning. I hope you will feel better soon

Coming off sweeteners is such an easy thing to do if u r serious about getting and staying healthy… the mind controls the body and will do what u tell it to do..now tell it to stop craving this terrible thing that is helping to make u sick! u do NOT NEED sweeteners.. u do not even need natural sugar… eat fruits ..in moderation of course. I DO NOT REMEMBER what sugar taste like and I do not miss it because I told myself… that's it..goodbye to sugar and sweetners.. of course every now and then I want to be tempted… but I resist and stick to my fruits… I love every fruit and where I live they grow in abundance and they are SWEET.. so I have to eat in moderation…
Diet Pepsi and diet sodas generally .. well they would never sell for me…I said goodbye to them ages ago since diabetes became my permanent companion in this life …lol!

Try xylitol. It is as close to sugar as you can get. You can bake with it. It is an all natural substitute for sugar. Low carbs. I buy a 10 pound container of it each year on the internet. It will not cause dehydration, high blood sugars, weight gain or any of the other issues common to artificial sweeteners.

I have cut out any artificial or natural sweeteners since January 2011 and so far have lost about 35 lbs. and a couple inches in my waist band, so I believe that sweeteners does help make one fat.

I read a lot about artificial sweeteners causing weight gain, high glucose, etc. So I switched from Splenda to Stevia and my A1C rose. Endo told me she is aware Splenda raises glucose, but not familiar with Stevia. People on this site that switched to Stevia are losing weight. One person lost 4 lbs in a week. I also gave up all sweeteners for a month and no weight loss. So my body must be unusual.

I just read article that insulin makes us fat. Article said you can have normal glucose and high insulin. Doctors rarely test serum insulin. But insulin/glucose ratio is best. Insulin can be high because pancreas is pumping all day long to get sugar into cells. Insulin makes person fat. The more insulin, the more weight gain. So if you are dealing with stubborn weight that refuses to come off, you may have high insulin. I think this is my problem since I keep gaining weight in spite of high protein diet, exercise and normal glucose.

I know how you feel. I just read last week about how the sweeteners like Splenda do this, making you gain weight and hurt something in your body, I cant remember what it said. Im like, what the heck? Its bad enough we have to deal with this disease, but to now hear about the badness of sweeteners. I dont know what to do anymore. I still use Splenda cause I need something sweet too and dont like regular sodas anymore either. Ive been trying to get a hold of my old dietician but no luck yet.

My doctor told me, it's better to put a spoon of sugar in your coffee, that sweeteners, because of the chemicals. My coffee wouldn't know what to do with 1 spoon, so I have cut back on drinking coffee.

I just got done talking to my old dietician and she told me as long as its in moderation, I can have splenda, so I dunno. She wouldnt recommend anything that would harm me I know that. I even told her how its supposed to harm you somehow along with the weight gain and she said its not harmful and to use it in moderation. I also asked her about the Almased and shes never heard of it, but Ive decided to not invest in the product. Ive heard nothing good about it so it can stay on the store shelves.

Do some research on it, and see if you like what you find out. I was using Splenda, and that's what she told me not to use, but sweet and low is nasty to me, so is Equal.
I just posted a news article on artificial sweeteners.
