Hey everyone, I'm a type 1 diabetic and have been for the past 16 years. I'm getting to that stage in my life where thinking about future is constantly in my daily life. I hope I'm a few years away from this but don't think its too early to start thinking about it but I was wondering what a pregnancy is like being type 1? Are there a lot of complications? I know that has to be a great deal of control on the blood sugars before and during the pregnancy. I'm hoping to get a little more insight since i do not know any type 1 diabetic mothers. I'm hoping to get a head start on getting my body to the best condition possible for when that time comes when I'm ready, I'm not told by the doctors that I'm not healthy enough. Thanks!

Hi, I'm 32 and have been type 1 for 31 yrs. Am currently pregnant with my first child, and although so far it hasn't been great I'd expected much worse! I just keep being told to keep sugars on the same level as much as possible and take one week at a time!

Thanks James. I must have missed all those posts. And you are right, it is the same thing. I guess i should have just said that I'm told i'm healthy enough.

If you're new you aren't expected to navigate like an old hand at it here. That's why I like to give folks the links to many posts. You can do searches on DC by selecting the "discussions" tab on the left margin and then on the page that comes up find the search box on the right margin and type in your search term.

There are so VERY many discussions on so very many topics. One can't keep track of all of them.

Howdy M.Wolfrath. WELCOME to DC!

There's been a bit of discussion here on DC about diabetes and pregnancy. Here's a list of those discussions: http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions?qu...

Is "not told by the doctors that I'm not healthy enough" the same as them telling you that you ARE healthy enough?

Praying God's richest blessings on you and yours
