net carbs vs. total carbs

Does anyone else think that the net carb info is just too tricky for calculations? To me, a sugar alcohol is a carb to be counted, as are fiber grams. If I would just take insulin for net carbs, i'd really have trouble. I'm thinking that maybe in the long run sugar free products are somehow better for your body (although I don't know how or why) but mostly just more expensive and no help to me whatsoever.

DawnieD~~ I can't figure out net carbs ys. total carbs either. So I figure I'll do it the easy way. Eliminate all foods w/the exclusion of fresh veggies and U R pretty much home free. Its worked GR8 4 me. But I left out 1 tiny thing. I'm way 2 LA-Z to start figuring out total carbs vs. net carbs. Now if some computer nerd would figure out how to invent a calculator 4 us who have the "Big D" then all we would have to do, is push a few buttons, & the ans. would be right there. But in the mean time, it was a lot easier to go vegan & eat only veggies. (no fruit. 2 much sugar)

I'm afraid I'm way too much lover of junky food; that's why I try to make sure I'm counting every last total carb. But hurray for you; wish I could do that!

Believe me, DawnieD, it wasn't easy. But I started out as a veggie when I was in college, (dorm food was not edible) so I turned to being a veggie. I became lactose intolerant and so I became a Vegan. Now when I was diagnosedd w/type 2 16 yrs ago, it seemed easy for me, that the next step was to cut out all forms/types of carbs. And as long as I was cutting things out, I cut out fruit too. (I only eat veggies. Nothing else.) Believe me it was not easy, but in the long run, I lost 80lbs. So I couldn't be any happier!!

I have done almost the same thing but limit my carbs no fruit, rice, white flour pasta, starchy veggies, regular milk, refined sugar.. But, I do eat proteins and probiotic high fiber dairy. I have lost 27 pounds!

I also go by the total carbs.

I feel the "net" carbs game is used by food manufacturers to make their products more appealing to carb-consciouis consumers.

Thank you! I also feel that that it's all a big gimic! And it certainly allows them to increase the price of so-called "sugar free" foods.
