Hey the feeling is mutual! I am still a newbie here (one year and two months) but we are all learning from each other and leaning on each other. I won't name-drop but if you look at my list of friends here you will find some of the most wonderful virtual friends that have become real friends to me over the past 14 months. So many people here have gotten me past the tears and fears of discovery of "I'm a WHAT?" to being able to use the word "diabetic" as an adjective. I am diabetic. It's not a curse. It's not a blessing. It is what it is and it's ME.

I took a few detours with checking out different websites and can't say that any were horrible experiences but definitely not the same as here on Diabetic Connect (DC for short). Anything you can get from your visits with us … inspiration, motivation, education, or inspiration … shows the power of the internet. It shows the power of believing in each other to get us through the changes and challenges that each of us have thrusted upon us.

I agree that it's overwhelming (weird even) to have so much support in a short time from people who are, were or will be going through what you're experiencing. I came here 14 months ago with no clue what to ask. I was sure the doctor made a mistake. He wasn't a whole lot of help to me. Everything that I learned came from the people here … the current and past discussions and replies.

I have since read various books, magazines, websites and tuned to TV shows that deal with diabetes. I don't blame myself for being diabetic. I don't blame my parents. I don't blame anyone or anything. This is me.

I am a diabetic!

Feel the same way, I have made wonderful friends on this site, and I know I have a place to share my emotions, concerns, when I have a need to vent; and the positives that have come my way. It also helps me to know I am not alone.

And for some reason when I can help brighten someone's day, with a smile or hello? Or offer encouragement also, I end up feeling good too!

Hope to hear from you!

Glad we can help! That's the reason I come here too. My husband is very understanding but it's not like having others who know how it feels to have a blood sugar reading of 38. Or how it felt when the doc said "You are diabetic"
Do come back every time you get the chance…:o)

Carolyn. I know what you mean. Before I found this place I had absolutely zero support. Now I feel so comforted that there are all these people who not only have great ideas of how to deal with many every day things but also people who just get it. So glad you are here too.

I know how you are feeling, I am overwhelmed at times with all the information here. This site seem to have the nicest and most helpful people you could ask for.

Hello CarolynSgr. Your right! This community is very supportive with wonderful people who understand when you need to vent, cheer you on when something good happens, and offer support when things are not going well. The people here are truly my second family!
