I can't really say how I first found this site,(I don't remember), but I do know I joined hoping to find information and hopefully support for this baffling and frustrating condition. I had joined another and didn't really find alot of that there…but I tryed this one and love it! I have made alot of new 'supportive' friends on here, and the other sister sites I've joined that addresses some of my other medical conditions…I would like to say THANKS to all…

I joined sleep connect originally as I suffer from insomnia then ended up joining a total of 5 different sites based on my medical conditions but diabetic connect is the one that I can't stay off. I am drawn to it like a magnet because that is my most serious ailment and I found the most wonderful friends and massive support, when you feel down and depressed the comments and humor are second to none and I have shed so many tears (of laughter) at some of the one liners that it has provided me with better medicine than the doctors could ever prescribe for me. It has lifted me out of a depression instantly and for that alone I want to thank each and every person who has had a part to play in that, and you all know who you are!!! A big thank you to you all. lol

Funny thing is it can work the other way around.
I am a diabetic type 2 and had been seeking support and information and found your site through
I signed up to get added points but also because i am diabetic and wanted to see what I could learn and once here i was darn glad My points helped me find you. I do like lots of the places i find through my membership there though but this one was my best find in all the years i have been a member

I am here because 10 years ago when my husband was in CHF - I found a wonderful site that offered me the support I needed. When I was diagonised with diabeties two years ago I tried to find a support site - I found one but it was not for me. I happened on this one through another link. And am so happy to have found exactly what I was looking for and needed. I have made friends and learned so much.

Thank you for being honest with us. I know from time to time people are asked where they heard of us from and how they landed here. I hope you find the "credits" that you are speaking of to be valuable because, in MY opinion, there is nothing of value here more than the support, encouragement, friendship, education, inspiration and motivation that my friends offer and share with me. While this may not be the place for you, that's okay. I hope you'll share the news of our site (and affiliate sites) with others who are looking to change and share their lives with us. I'm glad that I found this site as a diabetic but probably would have loved to find a "home" like this before I was diagnosed. The take aways from the discussions and replies here include healthier living, better food choices, better life choices and genuine friendships. You need not be diabetic to gain those valuable lessons no matter who or where you are in life.

What credits? I signed up for support and information and to be able to talk to others who have diabetes. If this is no longer a site for diabetics and just a site to get credits ( whatever those are here) then I will be leaving.

jayabee52 2011-06-09 06:00:07 -0500 Report

No, Cheryl, don't leave! The problem is that the original poster came here from outside DC because they got points in a game for signing up here. It had NOTHING to do with who we are or what we do here.

DJackwon 2011-06-07 15:51:56 -0500 Report

lol didnt know about the credits, signed up for information! And the support, which is what I might say wonderful!

Dixiemom 2011-06-07 14:39:33 -0500 Report

I'm here because I need information. I felt like my questions weren't answered and between this and Diabetis Daily, there is a wealth of information. The rest is optional and sort of quirky.

MrsCDogg 2011-06-07 14:05:01 -0500 Report

I'm here for the support and to make new friends. Hopefully I will get some useful information. I could care less about the credits or badges.

Jameesa 2011-06-07 13:32:17 -0500 Report

I'm here to learn how to become healthier and gather useful info and meet wonderfully encouraging people…

Partyone used the term, credits, but I'm almost convinced what he meant was the badges and points you get for posting, commenting, and so on.
They are fun, and I always get a kick out of earning a new one, but in truth, they are mostly for stuff I'd have most likely done for nothing anyway.
Fun, a nice incentive, if it encourages folks to take that tentative step in making their first post, then great, always look forward to seeing new faces and comments, regardless of why they post. Even ones with slight misinformation serve to start a discussion that can lead to great insight.
Even ones that are totally off the wall can be a great hoot.
In any case, welcome, and keep right on posting!

Anonymous 2011-06-06 22:44:25 -0500 Report

nah the guys are right right he means credits from internet games and such they wont be back which makes the points and badges beside the point

Tigereyze209 2011-06-07 23:50:43 -0500 Report

Hmm.. it seems that my faith in giving someone the benefit of the doubt was, unfortunately, misplaced. And sadly, I am usually better at reading people in those regards than that. Guess I need to get my radar tweaked.
(A total side note.. I was stunned to just find out that the word tweaked, is in my dictionary… wow.)

Tigereyze209 2011-06-10 15:44:56 -0500 Report

Huh.. the closest word I have heard to that over here in the us, and even I will admit, it is a little archaic (meaning, only really old people even remember it being used anymore) is the term, Godsmacked.. or stunned into total silence, which is pretty much the same meaning.

cavie2 2011-06-10 16:42:57 -0500 Report

it is but the first part of the UK word Gob is slang for mouth and smack is exactly what it says in other words 'smack my mouth'

Tigereyze209 2011-06-11 13:43:32 -0500 Report

Huh… I guess a hand smack COULD have the same affect.. break someones jaw and they literally are speechless. Kind of extreme for my taste, but I see it.

cavie2 2011-06-10 03:29:34 -0500 Report

I used to think Gobsmacked was just a Scottish slang word for speechless but it's not it is used widely all over the UK. If someone says or does something to render you speechless say: 'Well am jist Gobsmacked.'

Lymy 2011-06-06 20:45:49 -0500 Report

I honestly have to say that the points are an incentive and it's fun to see who has the most time on their hands that they can rack up thousands of points in a short while, but, I just like to talk and see how many of my friendship list do the same.

kdroberts 2011-06-06 16:27:07 -0500 Report

I believe they might be referring to credits you can earn (to be used on Facebook games, advertising promotions, etc) or get free stuff by signing up for various offers. I've seen one about a free glucose monitor pop up many times and it links back to Diabetic Connect. It's basically one of the many, many offers that are used by companies who get paid to get people to click through to their site/sign up for their credit card or service/take a survey or similar.

Nica0226 2011-06-06 14:45:52 -0500 Report

I give you credit for knowing about the credits and what to do with them. I noticed them next to my name on my profile page, but I have no idea have they are for. If you knew about that before joilning the site, and know what to do with them and how to earn them, good for you. And it's great that your are honest about why you really decided to sign up here. I signed up for information, I was hoping there were omni-pod users out there, type 1 who have past the 25 year mark, and are hitting that unusual reading thing.

jayabee52 2011-06-06 14:54:46 -0500 Report

some internet games give people points or credits for signing up for various sites. There was a rash of sign ups about a year or so ago where the ppl who signed up weren't interested in Diabetes, and just generally bugged people by making rude comments. According to John C at that time that was what was going on. So I thought the credit was having to do with the game she was playing. She probably hasn't seen these responses to her, as she's probably moved on to somewhere else, for more points.

kittenpurr1 2011-06-06 14:43:54 -0500 Report

I think she is referring to the points we get and the badges, which do nothing except- it shows little badges to make you feel like you have gained something, or posted something interesting and someone likes it. That's a lame reason to be here. It's a site for support, and knowledge, and a lot of friendly caring people are here. This so reminds me of someone else on a few sites- in competiton to earn points and credits, it is my opinion - that is someone needing some kind of regconition. Either way, perhaps- you will discover the real reason for being here, and learn some valuable advice. Good Luck.

have no idea what "credits" are, nor do i care what they are. great info and great people is this site is about.

I came to DC to get support and information about being a DIABETIC! What credits are you even talking about?? I'm sorry but YOU HAVE MISSED THE WHOLE CONCEPT of DIABETIC CONNECT. I suggest you go to a different site if you just signed up for "credits" this is a network of people helping each other with a serious illness! This is not a playground! There are many other sites that you can gain credits on! This is a serious site.

Here here!!!!! I came here to get any help possible, to give any help possible, and most importantly for a support system. Not everyone has that in there life as it applies to having diabetes. Coming here has been such a comfort.

Starry20 2011-06-06 14:27:01 -0500 Report

I agree, dc has really helped me… I found it and joined to see what it was about.. I know nothing of credits, but honesty is a credit in itself, at least your honest… The only thing I dont like about dc is it wouldn't sign me up because I'm 12… Other than that, this website is a real gift to all who sign up… Be blessed :)

Bill65 2011-06-06 12:19:30 -0500 Report

I joined ought of curiosity. I wanted to see what kind of information was being sent to us about diabetes. I have been a member since sometime last year, I think. I have just been reviewing Emails that have been sent to me. I have not even been looking at any discussions or anything else, until today. As far as points and credits, I was not aware of them until I received my first award. I still do not understand anything about what can be gained with the accummulation of points and notknowing, I don't care. I do not believe anything can match the type and variety of informeation that I have received on diabetes.

Hi what credits are you talking about. I came on here because of being a diabetic and that I can find good information here.

I am here because I want to be. DC has a lot of valuable information that I can use,. If you poet a question the group will try their best to answer it and there are a lot of very nice people here!

dgraff 2011-06-06 09:21:47 -0500 Report

I don't know anything about credits. I found this website because I was looking for information on Diabetes. I also stayed because of the information I find. I don't really post or comment on alot though, hopefully that will change as I get more involved.

alanbossman 2011-06-06 08:21:30 -0500 Report

I signed up back when this was a new web site and I joined up because other web sites I went to were not very friendly this site seemed to be much more friendly and alot of great people here and I need to talk to some one who had diabetes like me and I had a lot of questions. So I stay here and have been here since 2008.

jayabee52 2011-06-06 00:52:46 -0500 Report

Howdy partyone!
I will be honest too
To what "credits" do you refer? I have heard that some FB games gives a player points for joining something like DC, but no one has been as honest as you are, and if I could I'd give you credit for that.

I did not come here due to credits being offered. I came here because I wanted information on Diabetes Mellitus. Furthermore I stayed here because of the good information and the extremely friendly and knowledgable people here.

Bless you and yours
