I too use Splendra for baking, it does great except you need to add 2 Tbs of water with it and your cake will not rise as high as if using regular sugar.

I have heard the fructose will eventually kill you kidneys. I have had a pharmacist tell me this so I am really not sure.

I didn't know that about Fructose, but looked it up to check it out. Here's an article from LiveStrong.com giving a bum rap to High Fructose Corn Syrup: http://www.livestrong.com/article/419992-high...

here's a more technical article on the subject from a physiological stand point: http://ajprenal.physiology.org/content/293/4/...

So, Patch, it seems your pharmacist was correct.

Thnks for the links, James.
Ever since my husband had problems with kidney stones he cannot tolerate high fructose corn syrup. Made his kidneys feel like he had new kidney stones if he consumed it. Even molasses bothers him.

Do you mean fructose, Melanie? I came across a product which was a mixture of fructose and lactulose (milk sugar) called WheyLow. You can either search the discussions here or google it for information about it. When my bride "Jem" was living she couldn't stomach any alternative sweeteners due to tummy problems. I searched for something which would not raise her BG#s quite so much as sugar. WheyLow did not and she could tolerate it. So we bought her some, and then some more.

I grew up on a farm and we raised honeybees, so growing up, I used honey for everything we could. Didn't know what cornflakes tasted like sweetened with sugar, growing up. Yes, I did eventually use it in Coffee. I had gotten used to sweetening it with SweetNLow, so going to honey was a bit of a change, but eventually I got used to it.

BTW: honey is fructose.

Please notice Melanie, you can click on the little word "edit" below your posts and correct any misspellings or other mistakes. I have noted mistakes and misspellings I have made and gone back a year or more when I noticed and corrected them (kind of an obsessive-compulsive thing with me - LoL!)

Blessings to you and yours, Melanie!

Splenda does have a baking blend of white and brown sugar substitutes. You might try it next time you bake. I like the taste of it in baking, I think its a blend of sugar and splenda sugar substitute.

i hate all kinds of fake sweetner. i wonder if its okay to use little sugar and note alot of sweetner since all the bad stuff has come out how bad sweetners are for you.
