Since Diabetics are all different, should we eat what we are told or all eat nothing or what?

Boy do I have something to add to this one. My doc is so bent on me eating virtually nothing, that I've been getting very down in the dumps over feeling that I'm just never going to meet his expectations. My snack has even been cut. No fats, no bread, no potatoes, or pasta for me. I feel so intimidated by him always on my back about what not to eat. It's as though he doesn't feel I should even eat at all. That's how I feel anyway, whether it sounds like I'm on a pity pot or not, it's the way the whole thing makes me feel about myself. I've been feeling that I'm never going to get my blood glucose level down like it's supposed to be. I thought I'd share this, maybe others are going thru something similar.

If that is your doctor's opinion, I'd get a new doctor and have the new one refer you to a diabetes dietician. You can get it under control without 'stopping' eating. It doesn't sound like your doctor knows what he's talking about. We have to limit the quantities that we eat but we all need to eat a balanced diet. lean meats, vegetables, fruits and complex carbohydrates. Without proper nutrition the body can't heal itself. Now if he was telling you to stop drinking sugary sodas and eating fast food and snacks all the time, I'd agree but it doesn't sound like it from what you say here.

Hang in there and for god's sake find a new doctor that you can get along with, not someone that intimidates you that way. He's your employee not your master, you hire and fire him as you see fit.

(stepping down from soapbox again lol)

I eat what I want,I just don't eat much of what I cannot have. I could sit down and eat a whole choclate cake, but I won't. I only eat just a small sliver just enough to satisfy my craving.Don't always work in my favor.

Kyladee, Definately get a different doc. Also ask to see a dietician, and a dibetic instructor. They can both help with your diet. Many of the hospitals offer classes for diabetics also check with your ins co they may also have a program.
