Hey Gang, I've been experiencing my hands getting numb. It is happening more and more and is really getting to annoy me. Is it the diabetes, a complication of having diabetes, carpul tunnel or what??? I've been a diabetic for over 42 years and this is a new one for me. Please give feedback. Thanks =)

I have neuropathy of the hands from diabetes type 2. Discovered this 2 years ago from an exam by my Neurosurgeon in Syracuse. Had to quit work, go on long term disability for I could not do the assembly work. Yes, please see a specialist, neurosurgeon, in your area. No one has told ne what to do on this condition, any excerises, just gave me Tramadol for pain! I use a small rubber ball to do squeezes on both hands to keep up my strenght in hands. DONOT GIVE UP! My mom did wtit her arthritis in her hands, was a sin to see her go down hill in those last several years - I will be praying God will direct you oin the right path to good doctor who cares and wil give you instruction! Please keep me informed of your progress and well being, Grandpa Bill

Glad you are planning on asking your Dr. It could be either or both or something else. My Ulnar tendons are touchy. Wearing rings and sometimes even my watch can cause problems. My husband has nerve damage in his left hand from an incomplete spinal cord injury. Your Dr. should know by the symptoms you describe what the cause is.

I am having the same problem being a musician and guitar player. I started waiting gloves to my hands warm. I have been soaking in hot water it seems to help. Over all it just sucks.

Hi. Just as kdroberts said it very well could be a complacation. To be sure id address the issue with my doctor and let him eveluate your hands. I do have carpels and sometimes the pain can raidate all the way down my arm to my elbow. Also numbness. So its best to check it out with your doc. Have your sugars been high? You will want to make sure and control them to pervent any complacations! Best wishes, God bless!

I tend to run my Blood Sugars high when alone. I am so brittle that if I get below 100 then I can drop dangerously low so quickly. I'm working on it all. Thanks bunches and God Bless you both!!

It could be diabetic neuropathy. How are your blood sugars and how have they been over the last 5-10 years or so? If it is neuropathy it's basically nerve damaged caused by elevated sugars, it's not a good thing and if not addressed could ultimately end up in amputation.

It could be diabetic neuropathy and It could also be corpol tunnel syndrom (Sorry about spelling).
Your best solution is to talk with your Dr. and tell him all thats going on.
I have some diabetic neuropathy in my leg, but I also had to have corpol tunnel surgery on both hands. Your Dr. can find out for sure what it is.
But you need to talk to your Dr as soon as you can.

Thanks, I guess it's time to schedule an appointment with the doctor. Not to worry, I'll address it. I've had too much happen in my life to ignore something like this.
