Has anyone ever had their drs tell them that their eyes or any type of eternal organs are being shut down due to being a diabetic?

YES!! I recently found out that I have diabetic retinopathy. I was diagnosed in mid April and one week later I had my first laser surgery to treat it. I hadn't really noticed much of a change except I don't see quite as well as I used to but who does at the age of 50?

Was told by eye doc two weeks ago that I was on the road of retinopothy and if my BG numbers weren't controlled I will go blind in the future. So far my vision is only slightly off 20/25. Four years ago was put on insulin and taken off of metforman which was oddly destroying my kidneys & liver, which have recovered.

As for me my vision has been very blurry for almost 2 month now and my dr. worried about my liver but he's never said they'll shut down. I'm going to ask about it at my next appointment. Thanks for the post.

It is a good idea to get your eyes checked on a yearly basis. As far as your organs shutting down, only if you do not have your numbers under control. If your numbers are under control and you get regular check ups, you should be OK.

Unfortunately yes. Because I didn't take control of my #'s had to have my gall bladder out and have had chronic pancreatitus ever since. Something is wrong with my pancreas and can't figure out what. Also had a mild heart attack a year ago. If you let your #'s go uncontrolled this is what happens! Ellen :)

That can be a side effect of diabetes and if your numbers continue to stay high this can happen. Try to keep your numbers within target range and see if it helps! Hopefully it can reverse. This is why we must keep our numbers low. I wish you the very best and God bless!

My doctor told me about that. I was having vision problems until the metforim(spelling) started working good and its better now. Yes all that can happen acording to my doc.
