Wow! Thanks for posting this Richard. I dont like the sound of Long-term Vegetative State. Thats what happened to the socialite Sunny Von Bulow when her husband allegedly gave her an abnormally large dose of insulin. The movie Reversal of Fortune was based on her story.

Coma is related to the breakdown of fat when you don't have enough insulin to use glucose. A by-product of the breakdown is Ketones, which build up and cause acidic state in body. Hence "ketoacidosis".

You can also have coma related to low BG. . . But DKA or ketoacidosis is what I think if when I hear "diabetic coma".
