Even if your municipality allows you to dispose of sealed sharps containers with your household trash, the EPA does NOT endorse this. Instead, the EPA recommends these alternative methods:

* Sharps mail-back program
* Home needle destruction devices
* Drop-off or supervised collection sites
* Residential special waste pickup services
* Syringe exchange programs

Sharps safety reminders:

* Never handle-including recapping or destroying-someone elses used needles unless trained in safe injection technique and disposal.
* Use syringes or pen needles only once
* Never mail a syringe or pen needle unless it is an approved sharps mailer
* Do not recycle sharps containers. Check with your municipality or trash removal company for local guidelines

LOL I do everything you say not to, except reuse needles. One time use for those.

I just toss mine in the trash right after using them. And I recap my pen needles too. I use both syringes and pen needles.

My reasoning? Well, if the druggies need a clean syringe, they can pick mine out! LOL

Since the trash collection people use automated can loaders they never touch the can or the trash.

If ID thieves get a prick, they deserve it. Think of it like this: how may dumpster divers will risk getting pricked? Perhaps call it an added layer of security against identity theft?

Even if they mandated it, I still would just toss them ( out the car window if need be or in a McDonald's trash can, etc ), unless they wanted to pay me well for the hassle.
