I have recently been diagosed. I work 2 jobs. I have a very long day. It starts at 4 am and ends at 11 pm. I can do good all day, but when I get home I can't sleep so I eat. And of course it is the wrong things. When I get up in the morning my bg is high, then goes vdown through the day. I am sure this is not good. Are there any snacks I can eat at that time or do I have to just have self control which I don't have. I also have hbp and hc.

Ok, where to start? Regarding your weight: one contributor is the fact that you work during the night. This is the perfect arena for battles with weight gain,
2. you do not eat enough during the day so when you arrive home and can relax at 11 pm, you probably over eat. Oops! I just realized that you didn't say anything about your weight, but I will leave the info here.

3. Your glucose is high because you tried to sleep on a full stomach.
4. I am not surprised that you are not able to sleep as your body's circadian rhythm is completely mixed up. Your body doesn't know if it is morning, day or night. Our bodies have a specific cycle:
8am to 8 pm, you are supposed to be eating,
8pm to 4 am, your body is deciding what to do with the food you ate that day. (You are living on what you ate yesterday.)
4 am to 8 am your body is busy eliminating what it doesn't need.

Whenever we don't follow this cycle, we cause digestive problems.

5. I don't know what you do at work but if you are doing a lot of sitting, your metabolism is slowing down.

High blood pressure and cholesterol are both very affected by stress. When you are under a lot of stress, both go up.

Regarding snacks late at night, edel54's suggestions are very good ones, but I would leave out the popcorn because of the corn which will spike your glucose.

Do you like Fiber One cereal? That would be a great late night snack or some yogurt to help your digestive system work better.

With diabetes, the combination of lean protein and fiber is a fantastic combination for keeping your glucose steady and in the healthy range …

Thanks for all the knowledge. The answer to your question about weight is I am a little over weight 160 lbs 5 ft 2 inches. My jobs consists of alot of lifting and up and down ladders. I am on my feet all day. I take a nap in my car between jobs as I live too far to go home everyday. The price of gas is outrageous as I live in California. I will try to follow this advice. I am not one to have a routine.

But I love the butter, so I guess popcorn is out.

I love the butter on popcorn also. What I do is air pop into a bowl much larger than I need for that amount of popcorn. As soon as it's done popping I spray a light, even spray of the spray butter. Then I hand toss and repeat the spraying. I get the butter taste without all the fat and calories..
