I believe we all have the power to be our own best friends or our own worst enemies. If the period of self-doubt is temporary, congratulations… you're normal. But if this is an on-going thing, it may be time to seek professional guidance (counseling or medication) to get you back on track with setting and achieving goals for happiness, health or whatever is stopping you from being the uncontrollable and loveable you that you are, were, or will be. Now I am not trying to sound like a motivational speaker here but sometimes just making simple changes to your life or routines may be the kick-start you need. Life is a journey that consists of one step at a time. There will be set backs to that journey. There will be other roads on that journey. But keep your focus to do and be what you want to do and be, trust in yourself, and you'll find that you are already a beautiful person, inside and out. You just need to see it and believe in yourself. It all starts from the inside!!! You are still a seed in a garden of millions of people. It's time to blossom!!! Is there anything I can do or say to help you?

You may want to talk to a psychiatrist before doing anything. Depression is quite common amongst the diabetic community.

About self image and liking yourself - try buying a new outfit that makes you feel good. Get something you normally wouldn't wear that looks sharp. Then go for a walk downtown. See if that helps. And a cute puppy might be of value :-)

Yep! Dogs give unconditional love! They're always happy to see you when you come home.

Thank You for your suggestions. I have 5 chichuchuas. I've been taking anti-depressents and seeing a psych for the last 20 years. Sometimes I get really depressed and have to fight my way out of it and it really affects my diabetes during these times.

I too get depressed regularly. Especially when the weather is bad and I can't control my BS the way I want to (exercise).

There are agencies that will help women with self esteem issues.

Just remember this - you got diabetes through no fault of your own, unless you self inflicted it.

I got mine from some medications I took for headaches of all things.

Seems the headaches were caused by an allergic reaction to Splenda…
