My mom was a fabulous country cook but she would try lots of new recipes and they were always good. I think some of her best was cabbage rolls , spaghetti with meat sauce, and a beautiful lamb cake she made me every Easter. Others she made that were great were her fried chicken and steak and gravy. What are your favorites from home?

Potato Soup, Hungariian Goulash, Slumgullion,Hamburger Baked Bean Casserole, and Won Tons. Home made Chicken Soup and warm Jell-O water when I was sick. Homemade Pizza, Apples and Popcorn every Saturday night. Every holiday meal surrounded by family and friends and strangers. The summer of ice cream floats and salads for lunch. Every Tuesday Girls' Nite with Mom for the past few years, even though she is experimenting with new and sometimes strange recipes.

My Moms best meals were all the things I really should not eat now! Pot Roast with potatoes carrots and onions,Saurkraut and pork chops with mashed potatoes and of course her homemade german potatoe salad. There are so many others but my stomach is growling already. Thanks mom for all your nurturing, I miss you.

This may sound really crazy but I don't remember eating anything as a kid. I'm sure that I did eat but nothing is really memorable. I remember Mom's clam chowder, Canadian Pork Pie on holidays, and that she used to make her spaghetti sauce in the blender because it cut down the cooking time but, seriously, that's about it. I remember my Dad used to make sub sandwiches (grinders in Rhode Island) that we loved. There had to be something on our dinner plates but I don't remember much about my younger years. Am I THAT old???

My mom couldn't cook-still can't! Her stove is used for storage! I taught myself to cook when I was 10 and have been doing it ever since. I try to give her a good meal occasionally when I get time, or she just buys canned goods from CVS or out of catalogs! Seldom goes to a real grocery store. If her microwave dies, she is totally hosed-and she's diabetic too!
So, no memories of good food from Mom, but I've made my own memories with my family instead :)

When I was growing up dad used to compain that when he met mom, she used to burn a pot of plain water. He said she couldn't cook like him after all, because he was a chef in the Army during WWII.
By the time I came along I thought mom was a great cook.
I loved having beef stew made with fresh vegatables, and simmering all day long. I also liked Sunday dinners, which was always meatballs and spaghetti.
When we occasionally went to restaurants I would compare the food to mom's home cooked meals.

My mom's best meal? There were SO many. She really knew how to prepare great food. My favorite was her homemade spaghetti sauce. We could choose our birthday meal and mine was always Momma's spaghetti. Sadly, Mom has dementia and has lost her passion for cooking. My sisters and I have carried on w/ some of her best recipes. It's about keeping it alive for generations to come. Love you Mom!

My mothers best meals, were mock chicken legs (really loved these), and cabbage rolls. The best two meals I ever had.

My mom always experimented in the kitchen. I guess that is where I get it from as well. She always made the best pot roast with veggies. I don't know what she did to it to make it so good. I cook it the same way, but it's never as good.

Another family favorite (that I can't eat much of now) was what we called a Poor Boy Salad. It was a cold macaroni salad with tuna, onions, relish and sweet pickle juice. It was our Friday night camping meal every weekend in the summer. I guess it was more the emotional memory attached to it that makes it so special.

The only thing I can recall that my mom made better than me are yeast rolls-from scratch-without a recipe on paper to follow. She has it locked away in her head and they come out perfect every time. It took me years to get it right and thats after I screw up the first batch every time lol
