Just waned to "shout it from the rooftops" about my great blood work results! I'm 29 years old, and have been struggling with diabetes for 5 months now. I've lost 10-15 lbs in the past 5 months, eating well, etc. I don't have diabetes in my family, and I'm not overweight (my BMI is 23), so I've been struggling with why I have diabetes in the first place. However, I went to the Dr. yesterday. My BMI is 6.1 (down from 10.1 in November, 7.8 in January), and my cholesterol is 181, down 100 points in 5 months! I'm ecstatic! It just encourages me to see on a piece of paper that all my hard work is paying off, and I am in good health. I take 4 shots a day, I watch what I eat, I do all of this for myself, my husband, and my 3 beautiful children, and IT IS WORTH IT!

Since you're a type 1 it can be, Pin. We t 2's often have trouble keeping the weight off, in fact some think it's the reason we are diabetics. It's not that simple, though.

Actually Diabetes is a very individualized condition. Not all t1s will respond the same to the same meds, foods, drinks. and neither do all t2s either. For instance another t2 can eat oatmeal, but if I eat oatmeal it will skyrocket my Blood Glucose numbers! It can be quite frustrating!

Cool beans. Don't get hung up on the why, it won't change anything. Keep doing what you're doing and roll with the punches.

Thank you, kdroberts. I needed to hear that. I have been hung up on the "why" for several months now, but slowly, I'm accepting it as my "new life", and I'm doing everything I can for my kids. All I want to do is be healthy for them. :o)

Wow. Great job! What do you attribute your success to? The cholesterol drop is extremely impressive!

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure. I have been watching what I eat, but I wasn't a heavy eater before I was diagnosed. My Dr. did tell me that extremely elevated blood sugar can make cholesterol go up, so he figured that, before I did my blood work this time, it would be down, because my levels have been better. And it was!
