I just got the lab results from my resent Dr visit. I was a little discouraged when I went to see her because I had gained 8 pounds since the visit in January. I was not a good boy and stopped my walking and work outs so I knew it would be bad. I also indulged in some foods that were not the best for me either, but I was taking all my meds properly. So today when I got the mail i was so happy when I saw that my A1c was 5.5!!!!!! WOOOO HOOOO did a little happy dance! I have been out of work for a while and I got depressed about money and the cost of testing supplies and all things related to my diabetes so I let some things get out of control but I must have been better than I thought. I am hoping to be able to get more testing supplies for my onetouch meter and get back on the walking and working out. That will help me to watch what I eat and get back to loosing weight. I am so encouraged by that number!

Thanks for all that you guys share on this forum. You have helped me in more ways than you know.

Congrats on the great A1c. It is hard to stay on track when stress hits. Hope the job situation improves soon.

We all face those kinds of struggles and this just proves that the up and downs can happen all at the same time. I love it when I can do that happy dance. LOL

Winter is hard and we tend to pack on the weight naturally. Our bodies are made that way. So now that summer is coming you will be back to doing the things that help you most. I know that my gardening isn't like exercise and it lets me focus on the activity without fret over did I walk enough today or did I do something else. You will get back on board.

If you are looking for lower cost diabetic supplies, try Reli-On meter and supplies through WalMart. Meter is $9.00, 50 strips are $20.00, knowing you have your supplies and money to eat....priceless!

Thanks for the suggestion on the reli-on meter. I think I will try it. I heard some bad things about them not being accurate but as long as it is close that should be good enough.

I wish I had space for a garden. I am thinking about putting in a small 10 x 10 garden plot though - that could be fun.

Our first garden was just a row of 3 gallon pots with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and squash in there. It took very little space and we had a great crop that year. If you do a bed, try to keep something that you can reach into without stepping in the garden. Our beds are 8' x 4' and you can reach into them without disturbing the plants. It really is a lot of fun. Hard work, but fun.

That would be great - I have an accu-check meter and I liked it while I had strips for it. I do believe that the $15 thing only works when you have insurance that pays the rest of the cost. I will check into it though.

Way to go on the A1c.
I dont know why you would be discouraged we all know what is going to happen when we stop doing the things we know we need to do lol lol lol
Times are going to get a lot harder befor it gets better if it gets better ???
I do wish you the best and keep up the work outs and the walking
