Does being a diabetic affect the ability to conceive?

I have heard of many success stories with diabetic pregnancies. You just have a great doctor that will help you keep your blood sugars in check during your pregnancy. Because of the diabetes it is considered a high rish pregnancy but I have never heard of any fertility issues associated with diabetes, just possible complicated pregnancies.

I have been told that because of the lack of desire TTC (trying to conceive) can be very difficult. Some doctors still encourage diabetics NOT to become pregnant because of the health issues to the mom and the problems with delivery and the possibility of large babies but thats it. Someone else may have.
