I do a lot of reading so I cannot cite the source of this but I recently read that acupuncture MAY be a successful treatment for some diabetic complications (ie neuropathy), according to recent studies. I saw a discussion last June in the archives here on DC that was started but I think fizzled out so wondering now if anyone has opinions or insight on such a treatment option. Just thought I would revive the topic since I have no experience whatsoever. I'll be on pins and NEEDLES to see what you all have to say. (Pardon the pun)

I don't doubt that acupuncture may provide pain relief. I had a good friend who was an endodontist and did sometimes use acupuncture with success on his patients. Too often, our western (pill-pushing) culture dismisses some very effective remedies.

I have had acupuncture for my neuropathy. It doesn't heal the neuropathy but it does take away rthe pain and since I have a circulation problem with it, it did help with that aalong with some herbal medicationI take to improve circulation. I still don't know if my neuropathy is from the diabetis . I have it for overe 10 years and was just diagnosed type 2 this year. Don't rule out the acupuncture, it can only help.

I have a friend of mine who uses acupuncture for other things and she has often suggested that I give it a try. She says it helps her sciatica a lot. I cannot afford her yet, but the holistic doctor that she uses includes many therapies and works on each patient until there is some relief. I really want to give it a try.

Here is an article on it.

I am happy to hear about the accupuncture. I am in terrific pain and now I will try it again. I stopped going a long time ago because he hit a nerve and I hurt very badly. I became "accupunture shy." But reading that your mother is helped by it, I will try. Last week I took my grandchildren bowling - bad judgement on my part. Haven't been without severe pain since :-(

Well Gabby, if you can make the trip to Winchester, VA area, I can treat you for free. I sterilize different sizes of finishing nails, or just do the unit of nails if I determine you need a lot of points done and I have to use the nail gun. By the time I am done, you will not have pain in any part of your body, of course, you will have no feeling either!
Okay, the sadistic side of me comes out every now and then, but when jayabee52 offered to be my assistant, I had to offer.
Anyway, my mom has had on going issues with pain, especially on her back and breasts from shingles for the past 5 years. She cannot handle meds and the only 2 things that have helped her have been acupuncture and the TENS unit (electrical stimulation) I told her I could help with either or both, my own mother turned me down!

LOL, that is sad that your mom doesn't even trust you. Now my husband does have a brad nailer and a staple gun. What do you think?

I had to, for credibility reasons! You wear a tie, I don't even own one anymore! that was my 50th b-day present to myself, no more ties! :)

That pic was taken at my #2 son's wedding. Ties were expected. I "lost" it ASAP. I don't wear ties, except to special occasions. I'm now wearing shorts and a "wife beater" undershirt. (Don't get excited —- I have no wife to beat)

I guess I should not have offered it for free; that just screams sadistic all over it! They say you have to licensed to do that kind of stuff. I don't recall anyone saying what kind of license. I have my driving license, water plant operator's license and hunting and fishing license! So I should be good to go!

Nah, Ray you enjoyed it too much. and pardoning the pun would only encourage you! LoL!

I searched the discussions here for the word acupuncture and here is the list:

None of the discussions are very long. I think the longest is 7 or 8 replies long.

I am considering maybe trying it out — mainly to stop or reduce my Neuropathy pain, once my experiment with Anasthasia Marie is done. Should I do that, I will report my findings.

Oh, I guess I would have found all of the discussions had I spelled the word correctly when I searched. I had 2 "c's" when I did the search. I guess I am not smarter than a 5th grader. :)
