Hi everyone,
I am so excited to have found this group. I tried another support group that will remain nameless. It was terriable. I was having trouble understanding why I have neuropathy when my numbers have never been above 125. You would not beleive the responses I got. Basically telling me I had no business even asking such a question. I had given up on finding a support group. One day last week I got a emiles earning oportunity message, and there you were! I checked out the discussions and joined. I am so thankful for all of you.

I found this site really by accident. In the midst of trying to find out more about the disease, and making sense of this large stack of informaiton from my doctor, I was just online looking for answers—feeling so lost and alone, and needing someone to talk to but not really wanting to talk to anyone if that makes any sense. Well the person I wanted to talk to was my mom but she passed away last year and so I was just feeling lost and wandering around in cyber space. But so far Ive found some really good recipies and I find this site a wealth of information and support. Although I still feel like a fish out of water, at least Ive found a site that can help me understand how to continue to live with diabetes in a positive way. I know its not the end of the world but sometimes it sure feels that way. Im really glad I found this site

April404 - It is not the end of the world. Only one more hurtle to get over. But it is real, and you have to deal with it. I understand your feeling acout your mom. I too want nothing more than to be able to talk to my mom and dad, in times of sorrow. I know they would be there for me, It isn't the same but my internet friends sure help fill the void. Soo glad you are here! Roseanne

Thank you all for your wonderful responses. This community is a place of support and acceptance thanks to all of you! Diabetes is a hard disease to cope with some days. It is so great to have a place to come where everyone understands the stress and frustrations that we all go through when living with diabetes. Hi, Roseanne.

I found the site after being DX'd a week ago, while googling for information on "what the heck I was going to eat now." It seems like a great site, and I'll be sticking around.

I don't remember when or how I found this site…but I do know that I had miserable experiences with other sites… from people checking my spelling to arguing with me about using shots instead of the pump. The terms of service were in place and one site even told the poster that they agreed to "be nice"… But … it did't happen. I was really happy to find all these nice people here. I don't post alot…but I read almost everything. And if I don't thank Ya'll enough, I apologize…but I do love it here!! tina…

Hi Roseanne, and welcome to the DC family I found this site by checking around the internet back when I was first DX back in 2008 of june. I saw other sites but I was turned off by them by some of the peoples answers to others about diabetes. So I found this site and found alot of great people here.

Roseanne! Welcome! This is such a family. Other blog sites I've visited seem almost hostile, but no so here. You'll find love, support, caring and its all genuine. I think I received an email about DC and signed up to copy recipes. Every day I'd get an email from here. Then, frustrated with my lack of progress with my BG #'s I decided to look for a support site. Came here first and was drawn in by all the caring replies to questions and such. The people here have become like family to me. Don't be shy, Roseanne, jump right in. I'm sending you a friend request.

Welcome to the site, Roseanne, I hope you find all the answers you seek. This site has a bunch of great people willing to share their stories and advice. Good luck!

Oh, you're just saying that because you're one of those great people! :)

Yes, she is! And so are YOU Ray!

Of course not everybody sees 6' lepracauns!

jayabee52 2011-04-17 17:14:48 -0500 Report

It was about 2 yrs ago when he was new to DC — he told a story about a 6' lepracaun promoting something in a grocery store.

Oh, I will never forget it (and I suppose others won't let me). I went to a grocery store with my wife and I was followed around by a 6' coupon-pushing Leprechaun. I mean, I am talking militant leprechaun!!! No matter what aisle I was in, there he was following (stalking) me to take the darn coupons. I wanted to kick him in the Lucky Charms… would have been magically therapeutic!!! :)

I found this place while surfing. Once I met the wonderful folks they were stuck with me. The leaprechan cinched the deal.

I'm glad you found us also. There I was just a day or so after my diagnosis on google trying to find a place to learn and share information … and, voila! Up popped several support groups (also remaining nameless) and this place. Well, it was such a "home" that I just moved in and although I still explore other sites, I won't leave this one. There's so much more to this website than just the discussions and I am constantly finding new information in the archives and through the links to the left like the book and product reviews, recipes, videos, and so forth. In addition to the public discussions that I start and those which I comment on, I have a number of friends on my friend's list that I correspond with who fill my life with true friendship whether it's a simple "thinking of you" or an in-depth monologue about one's health, job, family, personal struggles or whatever. I have since found new friendships in the affiliated communities of this group with hearinglossconnect, obesityconnect, copdconnect, and others. If there's anything I can do or say to help you, add me as a friend and drop a line. I don't have all of the answers but I have some broad shoulders and keep strong confidences that are shared with me.

I'm glad you found this iste. I don't remember how I got here but I find this and several of the associated "connect" sites to be just as good. It is a great place to get answers from other people who care.

jayabee52 2011-04-17 13:24:12 -0500 Report

I really don't remember exactly Rosanne. I think I responded to an ad for a free diabetic recipe book about 3 years ago. The site just grabbed my interest. My beloved Jem complained that when I was on DC she felt like an internet widow. (I do spend quit a bit of time on here and the other "connect" websites)

Hopieland 2011-04-17 17:07:19 -0500 Report

And we are sooo glad you do, James. You add so much here. You always bring new insight and knowledge about D that helps each of us in one way or another. Tell Jem we appreciate her lending your time to us (smile).
