I am a masters student and for one of my classes I am supposed to start a diabetes support group. I also want to do this because there is not one in my area. Any ideas? Also I am looking for some good handouts?
Thanks!!

I think this is a wonderful idea. I am considering doing this but, admittedly, as a lay person. I think it would be helpful for people to have resources. I've only had Type @ for about 7 months and my A1C is 5.4, I test a lot and watch what I eat. I know that having resources when I was first diagnosed was very important to me. (It still is).

HI, you might want to use meetup.com to list your support group. Getting in touch with local doctors who treat diabetes, and asking if you can provide them with a handout, might also help. People who are looking for a support group in their area would find their way to you. And the American Diabetes Association is a good resources for information.

Best of Luck to you. I think this is awesome adventure for you and blessings to the others who will attend the support group.

I belong to a support group called ADEMS. Adult Diabetes Education Management Support. which meets monthly at a local library here in Las Vegas NV.. Here's a website for them: http://diabetes-lasvegas.org/ Chris and Theresa Moore are the facilitators. Look at their website. There's a "C" on the circle of the home page which has their contact information on it, both an email address and a telephone number.

On that page brought up by clicking the "C" Chris & Teresa say you are welcome to call 24/7. Theresa is a type 1 who wears a pump. Chris admits to being a "type 3", a caregiver and loved one of a Person with Diabetes. Chris is involved in the medical field, and is active in the state of Nevada on issues relating to diabetes.

Perhaps they may give you pointers on starting a group.

Praying for your success!

James

Thank you so much! I would love to talk with them. I want something good to come out of this diagnosis and I fully intend to make it happen one way or another! :) Prayers are greatly appreciated!
