I didn't take any meds for my type 2 for almost 11 years. I took herbs. You could look into that. I also exercised (fast walking and bike riding) and was pretty careful what I ate. the herbs I took (and still do if I need them) are Uva Ursi and Alfalfa. My last A1C was 6.2. You can check with your dr. and let him know you are taking them if you decide to do it. My dr. supported my decision and when I finally needed to go on a med, he put me on Metformin. I felt at first that I had failed, but then realized that I had been med-free for almost 11 years so I felt better about that. If You need insulin, take it, don't be afraid. talk to your dr. about herbs, or med or insulin. check the internet and get all the info you can to help make a right decision. Diabetes is horrible, but you can live with it and learn what to eat and all the stuff that comes with it.

I know it is a shock to have that diagnosis, but not accepting what the doctor is saying right off is not a great idea. If you are not willing to use insulin, did your doctor offer you alternatives with other oral meds or did he suggest diet and exercise first?

You want to work with your doctor to get the treatment that you both can agree on. I would suggest you go back to the doctor and ask more questions and express your concerns. A 209 is nothing to take lightly, specially as a fasting number. That means there is damage going on inside your body that you may not feel until it is too late.

I take two shots a day, no oral meds Even with insulin my blood sugar was still high, after trying out different insulins I got one that works great. It's such a relief to have my blood sugar in control and the shots reall

y can't be felt. I get more pain pricking my fingers everyday.

Why can't you accept that advice? The options you have are a) Go to a different doctor and see what they advise, b) ignore your doctor and drastically change your diet to a very low carb one and exercise every day, c) Ignore your doctors advice and do nothing which will lead to all sorts of problems and eventually death or d) take your doctors advice.

Your numbers are not very good but food everyone is different about what food does for them, try low carb meals in portion size. Chicken, fish and turkey. Stay away from white rice, white potatos, and white bread. This my help. Do not be afraid of insulin it is great in keeping BS numbers in control.
