Gastric by pass 10 years ago.Weight is still off,but still diabetes.

I had Gastric by pass suergy 10 years ago.I was never able to get off all my diabetes meds.No shots but still needed pills.Know Im still 130 lbs gone but back on shots.I really worry about the heart meds I'm on and everything else that they want to put me on?Any one else have this problem or am I alone in this mess?I have hardin of the arterys do to family history also.I was only able to get off the shots for one year after having suergy.Now back to 2 shots a day and heart meds too.What do you think everybody?

This is just point to the discussions that gastric by-pass surgery doesn't "cure" diabetes. Loosing weight is fantastic, but not the "cure" to diabetes either. It is a tool, just like gbc43 said. Tools to help us have control. I am sorry that you have gone back to shots, but diabetes is a progressive disease and it is far more likely to get worse through the years than better.

I had mine in 85 and also lost 135 lbs but not a diabetic at that point.The weight stay off for a long time ,12 years .
I started the shot a few years back- sorry I waited so long .Shots are just a tool like pills are .
