Complications Not Inevitable

We all hear many scary things about the severe consequences of diabetes, but having this disease does not mean that all the bad body damage is necessarily in our future. We can work to slow it down, or sometimes, avoid it.
Remember, that despite what all the media says, diabetes is not a leading cause of blindness in the United States - but, poorly managed diabetes is a leading cause of this and other very serious health problems.
We all need to keep blood pressure, blood glucose levels in check. Also watching our diet, how often we exercise, maintaining a healthy body weight and taking all our medications properly will all work together to avoid major complications .

You are so right that we have to work to keep other health problems at bay. In the last month I have lost 21 lbs. I have kept my 1ac below 6 and my blood pressure has been 107over 70. I hope to do better in the next 3months.

Well my goodness, Astro! How much better do you think you need to do?! Its pretty awesome what you've done! If you keep the A1c and blood pressure in their current range, and keep going with the weight loss, I think you're absolutly spot on! I'M impressed! Good job!

By the way, do you know what your fasting BS was last time they checked it? Just curious. That's the one that was the hardest for me to get down in the good range. I finally did it, though, the last time I had labs done it was 101. That was more than enough to please my Dr. ;-) Mara

This is a great post and so very true. The better we control our levels the better chance we have of less complications. There are so many factors to it all and so many things that are tied together in ways we have yet to really understand. Our bodies are incredible and sometimes we take them for granted. We are a very well balanced machine and when things get out of whack in one place we often can compensate to balance it in another. But it is hard work and takes diligence, and still there are no guarantees. That is true on the good or the bad side.
