when first diagnosed, for nearly a year, I tested twice a day, 2 hours after a meal, and first thing in the morning. When I was controlling by diet and exercise for a good amount of time (and still am) they said I could go to once a day. Some days I forget, but most days I check, and it is at all different times, an hour after I eat sometimes, other times first thing in the morning, and still at other times, 2 horus after eating, just random I think that is the best way to see what is going on. I like to keep a log of my numbers. I log them in about once or twice a month on a site.

I test 4 times a day. One day before meals and before bed. The next day fasting morning and the 2 hrs after meals. This gives me and my Dr. a look at how I'm handling sugars.

Gee, now I feel like such a slacker…I only test three x a day. My doctor is very happy with my numbers, even when I'm not, so I'm trying to keep down the cost of those darn test strips!

Hello I have just started testing I have a new doctor and she gave me a BS note book to keep record of my BS 7 times a day before breakfast, before meals and before 2 hrs after each meal and before I go to bed. I was diiagnoised with DB a few years ago and I have not had a doctor to really work with me until now and she jumped righth on it. It is amaizing to me how my BS jumps after eating certain foods. I have been just concentrating on getting my BS in sometimes I forget but I have been getting better each day.

I am now testing a minimum of 6 times daily, exercising more and trying to get a better handle on controlling my diabetes. If I'm feeling hypoglycemic, I'll test more often…(Tuesday, I tested 10 times). Unlike Cheryl713 who responded earlier, my blood sugars go up when I'm fighting an infection. It just goes to show that we all react differently and have to find what works for us. I find the test strips the most expensive part of treating this disease but I would be lost without my meter.

I normally test 6-8 times a day. Sometimes will test as many as 20 times when trying to figure things out. Lately my blood sugar has been high for me. So I have been testing about 10 times a day. I believe in finding when you peak after eating and testing at that time. All my A1C’s have been below 6.0 since the first one. The first was 14.1. I don’t take meds or insulin. I don’t even exercise. Diet only.

My doctor has me test 4 times a day. I test more often if I seem to be running low all day. I hardly ever go higher than 170, so I'm not worried when it's a little higher than normal. I'm more prone to lows.

My Dr gave me the same requirements as Mizzgreenjeanz. But if I am eating carbs I test before i eat also. he didn't frown upon me testing more but i guess it could drive you crazy if you kept doing it. Write down what foods spike your blood sugar then you know to stay away or eat less of them.

My dr wants me to test 2-3 x a day; however, if I am not feeling good, under stress, or a new food, I test more often, just to stay on top of it..

My doctor recommended 1 fasting and 2 two hour after eating tests…but I poke more often…that way I can see if I spike from foods I ate…or how I am at night…maybe I am just more curious than my doctor. :)
