Hi! Buckoo yrs ago I had sun poisoning. Major blisters, ultra pain. I wasn't taking any meds then. Now, so 50 yrs later…I've noticed I can't be out in the sun as long as I used to because I burn much more easily. Could be meds, age or the combination of both. Our bodies do change as we age and some meds make us hyper-sensitive to things we used to not have a problem with at all. Docs are not real high on my list, but I visit my PCP regularly. WE ask Q's of each other, talk about the treatment he recommends and I have to be honest and tell him if I'll do that or not. If not, then we look for another route. You may have developed a sensitivity to sun. When I'm in the car a lot in the sun, I drape a small towel over my shoulder and arm, or legs if I'm wearing shorts. Helps a lot and keeps my skin from getting too hot, not to mention, burned. Having worked in an ER (yrs ago) I saw many sun poisonings. Most of there were people who, like me, were sun worshiping beach bums most of their lives, then suddenly sun poisoning. Most of them were in their late 20's to mid 50's. While I'm a skeptic about Docs, I know they know more than I know. SP is nothing to mess with, at any rate. Your research will pay off sooner or later! When you find something, let us in on it, too!

I appreciate all of you that have made suggestions and well wishes and I know i keep telling you no not this no not that..either way ur suggestions are very helpful and still wanted so i have something to go on and suggest to the docs… im a big time person about being involved with my docs and my care and help manage it.. i dont just go by what they say … i research and study and talk with wonderful ppls like yall. So.. just cuz none of this has been it yet… KEEP EM COMING… we may just know this in time for me to see the doc and ill go in and diagnose myself and he do what i need to keep it gone lolololol… in that case I think we should all receive his month's pay…HAHAH… ok yea sorry i get sidetracked and laugh too much .. but anyhow ty all and i keep reading and keep wondering with yall.

THANK YOU …Nicki

Lots of antibiotics will make you (temporarily) extra-sensitive to sunlight.

Yea ty I do know that about antibiotics, but I have not been on any antibiotics since November of 2010.

I had a major couse of antibiotis through Jan and Feb of 2010. Had a major sunburn in July. I usually do not burn. The sun seems harder on my skin since then, even leaves my skin feeling warmer were the sun hits it for a longer time after I am out of the sun. Maybe the afect stays in our systems longer than we think at first.

Aren't you in the Denver area, Graylin? Alitude (less atmosphere to filter the effects of sunlight) may also be a part of sunburn. Also low humidity like in Las Vegas also is a factor.

You're right. Gotta watch the altitude. I was in the foothills at a niece's soccer game. It was one of my first sun days out of the hospital last year. I did remember to wear my hat to keep from the sun/altitude headache. But forgot my shirt had a lower neck than I usually wear. I did remember my water to keep hydrating. I don't get a sunburn very often. The last time was at a 4th of July parade a couple of decades ago. Hurt so bad made me remember all the precautios for a long time.
Some days it feels like I'm living in a huge dehydrater. Notice Colorado's dry air a lot more whenever I've been in more humid climates.

I lived along US-50 about an hour from the CO border for a few years (just a little west of Garden City KS), so I know about how dry it is there. But it is even hotter and drier in LVNV where I am now. Quite a difference from where I grew up in Nw OH!

My husband had a bad reaction to an antibiotic that way. His hands blistered up horribly. There was no warning on his bottle, so that is a bad thing. I don't know if the D is the problem, but the reason we tan or get darker is to help stop the addition of more D naturally, so it could be the combination. Have the doc check it out and make sure he knows how much D you were taking.

Oh they know how much. and i understand the sun and why we tan etc… but if ur not being able to tan and its directly hitting the top layers of skin harder than usual like… as if any barriers i have left are gone >>>>???? sounds nuts.. but Im still trying to get to the bottom of it all. Thank you for your input and so sorry about ur hubby's reaction. Sad they didnt warn him… I get pamphlets with my meds, but I also research them against my other meds even though the doc says he does.. its one of the first things i say to him… IS THIS GOING TO AFFECT OR INTERFERE WITH MY OTHER MEDS???? he always takes the time to check and so does my Endo doc… I am allergic to sooooooooooooo many meds that I have to have things checked often and keep up on whats going on with me. As i learn more and get more input from others here.. I will come to the head of this … ;-) have a great day! Nicki

Allergies are rough and specially when it is a lot. Sorry to hear that. Could that be the issue as well, with the bumps you explained?? Hubby had a delayed reaction to a shot the doc was giving him once. First two shots were fine, but the 3rd one, make him break out in little water blisters all over his body. How kookie is that? Meds are helpful, but like you said, you have to check on them all. I use www.drugs.com to check mine and I also talk to the pharmacist a LOT.

I check mine on there too… great site. as well as my pharmacist… my mom was a nurse so i learned at an early age they know more about the drugs ur getting and mixing than the docs do most times. ummm… i didnt have bumps… it was welps… like say a belt would leave… but alll over my arm, chest, face, neck, and ear… as soon as i got the steroids started again they went down.. u can see faintly where they were but also im much tanner there too.. lol… so I keep going back to maybe something to do with the sun… I see the dermatologist April 25. So hopefully Ill know more by then… till then Im keeping track of everything i touch use etc near or on my body. or put into my body. so sorry he got that kinda rash that has happened to one of my sisters once… it was rough. Take care and ty. Nicki

Howdy Nick1! Welcome back! You were missed.
I looked up so called "sun poisoning" (aka "Photodermatitis") and found a wikipedia article on it Here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photodermatitis And here's a multipage article from WebMD http://www.medicinenet.com/sunburn_and_sun_po...

And here's a wikipedia article on Vit D. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_D.

You might have developed a sensitivity to the sun. Our bodies change as we get older, so perhaps that may explain it.

It's good you're seeing a Dr!

Blessings to you and yours!

James

Thank you for the articles… don't have time this morning to check them out its just after 7 am here and i gotta get moving.. but ty and i do notice and have noticed how my skin and body in general has changed so much after having my girls over the years. Especially my youngest… she was born with a skin condition and I had it for a while, but got mine gone…unfortunately hers isnt yet, but also im thinking the same about me being sensitive to the sun more now than when i was younger… which upsets me… i love the lake and sun and staying out in it alllllllllllllllll day… but i stopped the tanning ways like that after i had my first daughter… but i still get my farmers tan…lol .. anyhow ty and ty for welcoming me back… i am going to try to get here more often again. and yesssssssss i do see docs for my issues .. i think i have one for every part of my body now… lol.

Have a good day Nicki

Not eczema, is it? Ask for a thyroid check if you've not had one—low thyroid does really weird things.

I have done really well lately, until yesterday.. wabam… I have a rash just under my neck… itches, but I found this really awesome can of spray in the Dollar Store that has Lidocaine in it and things to help relieve the itch…ahhhhhhhh so no problemo here.. it's almost gone tho. HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE!! or omy i mean wkd. It's Friday… with my kinda work.. Friday don't matta. ;-)
