Howdy and welcome to our site! You will find that many of us have been where you've been, where you are, and where you are going. I did not get a whole lot of support when I was diagnosed until I found this site. The doctor did not offer much help other than give me the diagnosis and suggest that I lose a few pounds. Well, I didn't even know there were diabetic educators, dietitians, support groups and I wasn't even told to invest in a glucose meter. Everything that I have learned has been from the education, inspiration and motivation of other members here. I had to find my own diet (which I call eating plan) and have found success with a thirty pound weight loss. I can honestly tell you that my success came slowly and came from simple swaps. I started to add exercise. I started to cut back on carbs and especially white sugar. I started to make sure to eat more often but eat less food at one time. I started to test more frequently to see how my food choices affected my glucose. I started to read books and web discussions. I started to make friends here. My advice is to take baby steps in your dieting efforts. Remember that success is a journey, not a destination. If I can be of any help to you, please add me as a friend and let me know what I can do or say to guide you. Surely others join me in that invitation. You're in good hands here!!!

One of the best things for me to help me stick to a diet is to write everything down. Boy is that revealing!! YIKES! I was shocked at all the things that passed my lips when I was paying attention. Then once you kind of see where you are, you can plan for where you want to go. Reducing here, taking out a carb there, putting in a snack somewhere else. I find that to be a great too. Choosing the diet is really up to what works for your glucose numbers.
