If your meter is old and dirty, or if your test strips have expired or been exposed to heat or dampness, you will get incorrect readings and be totally misleading for you.

Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for how and when to clean you meter.

My mother-in-law never ever cleaned her'sfor the first 15 years.. She had three over the 25 years that I know of. One day while taking with her I learned she had never been told to clean it. The home health nurse had cleaned it on her first visit after a hospitalization. After that my Father-in-law cleaned it every time. I'm not as regular with my cleaning. I do it once a month, but mean to more often.
