I am newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. When i went to the emergency room my sugar level was 1147 and my A1C number was 11.3. The doctors and nurses were surprised i didnt have a stroke, coma, or wasnt dead. I also found out that i have hemochromatosis (iron overload in the liver). Is there anybody out there that have the same two illnesses. I need help with nutrition. Dr. said i cant have foods with alot of iron, vitamin C, and vitamin B12. That doesn't hellp with my diabetes diet. is there anyone out there thatknows where i can find a cookbook that can address both issues. I was only diagnosed 2 months ago and it is really frustrating

Look for hemochromatosis support groups as there are some links to purchase a cookbook. the important thing is to read labels, and educate yourself. The doctor should have been a little more helpful. If you have insurance ask for a dietary consult and give the dietitian a heads up so she can do necessary research and give you the biggest bang for your visit with her.
