Hello everyone!

I am a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University recruiting group members with type 2 diabetes to take a 30-45 minute survey. The purpose of this research is to evaluate a peer-based mentoring service rooted in an online social community for type 2 diabetics. The service is the result of previous research I have launched. I am trying to determine the strengths and weaknesses of this service and community.

My research study involves a 30 minute online survey reviewing a prototype

You will be entered into a lottery for a $50 Amazon giftcard

Thank you all for your help in this process.

Thank you!

I don't have that video program to do the survey. Can I try it again if I load that up on my computer?

Yes you can. It works best in Firefox (mozilla) web browsers too. If they don't load the first time, try refreshing the page.

I use Mozilla, but I use media player for my videos or java. I don't have the one you used in the survey. I will go get it so I can run the videos. Thanks

Yes....thank you. I could remember the "quick" part of the name, but not the other half. LOL. It's easy to find and free, shouldn't be a problem.

I know that this is not actually going to be launched as an actual thing-but I think its a great idea, and I wonder if there is an actual way to make it reality?? I think people may benefit from it in real life-maybe not everyone, but there are some folks who do well with one on one and personal support.
Lauren, how could someone make this real? Could you?

I'm not sure how someone could make it real, but I will work to find out. I heard there are two MBA students at my University looking into a similar idea, so my Professor has arranged for me to speak with them. I suppose that is a start, right? I'll be documenting everything at the end of April/May and it will be public, so if someone is interested in pairing up, I'm open.

I'd be interested-don't know how much help I'd be with my killer work schedule right now-until October-but keep me posted and I'll try. Maybe some folks from here also. I may know someone on the outside who I may be able to interest as well.

This web site/mentoring service will not actually be launched. It is my graduate thesis project, based on a year's worth of research. The purpose of the project as a whole is to explore to learn about how individuals with chronic illness and their caregivers leverage the social web to support themselves.

Even though the brochure may seem realistic, the survey is a mock up so that it feels real enough for the idea to be tested. If you have any concerns about the survey, remember that no one is required to participate. Of course I would appreciate any participation, as it will be a great help to academic research on type 2 diabetes.

The questions you are asking now lead to and become solicitations. I am bothered by that and it goes against the bylaws of this site

I think this is a ploy just to draw others to this website . The questions are all of a marketing format to influence not ask questions of a survey.

Friends: I have been with Lauren since the beginning of her journey with the survey and would like to encourage each of you to help her gain more knowledge of us and our conditions and opinions of diabetic awareness programs. I appreciate the fact that Lauren actually listens to our feelings and I am 100% supportive of the research that is being conducted. Won't you please help me help her???

I have just done this survey-I have taken a few others that she has done as well, and there is nothing to fear from taking it. I found it very interesting and there are many places to input your own opinions and ideas. I am interested to see how it all turns out.

Those of you that have seen some of my posts know I am usually very cynical and sarcastic and I don't buy into much, but I think she's got a good idea here.

Please do take the survey and help Lauren out-there is much good that can come from it :)

I have not done this one yet, but I too have worked with her and she is very through and VERY inquisitive. I back and forthed with her for about a week on answers that made her ask more questions, that produced answers that made her ask more questions. So join in if you like. We are the ones who live with it every day. I am always glad to help someone who genuinely wants to make our lives better. Who better to help than those who live it daily?

Be honest in the presentation then. this is not how its presented. This is presented as a survey to help a college student. I am all for helping anyone but do not like when something is not presented forthrightly. Most people do not and isn't solicitation forbidden in the bylaws of this site? (vii) contains solicitations or advertisements of any kind; (viii) constitutes or contains false or misleading indication of origin or statement of fact;
