I am new do having injuries and Diabetes. Will my ribs take longer to heal? Is there anything I need to watch out for? I am not sure what all I need to do. I have broken ribs before and I know that they take a long time to heal and I have not gone to the doctor for this one because there is nothing they can do anyway. I have no insurance and can't afford to spend money on this.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Thank you everybody for your posts. I like it here because people care about people. And you guys proved it. The ribs feel a little better and I am not as worried about it as I was when I first posted. Prayers are awesome and so are all of you.

I am praying for healing for you. I think it will just take some time, but just have patience with yourself, my friend.

Im sorry I dont have an answer to your question but I did want you to know that I put you in my prayers for a speedy recovery. I do know that there isnt much they can do for ribs though besides wrapping them. Also, if you have to cough, its good to clutch a pillow to help "soften" the pain.

I wish you well ~ Cheryl

My mom fell and broke a couple of ribs a few years back and since it was her first time, we had no comparison to time to heal. She is a type 2 and at the time she was on oral meds for it. I know we tend to heal slower in our extremities, but I am not sure it is the same for our trunk. The only thing they could do for her was give her some meds for the pain. In the start, it was very hard on her to do anything. It took a month or so before she started feeling more "normal".

Sympathy for the broken ribs. I managed to crack one myself. I thought it was a pulled muscle. It took about 8 to 9 months to stop hurting, but I think it was slower for me due to another complication not Diabetes.

as far as recovering from injuries go, we are all a bit different. From what I recall from my days before DM we all healed at different rates too. The only comparison which could be made would be you before DM and you after DM. I have heard that those with DM heal slower than they did before, but older people without DM heal slower than when they did when they were young. Highly individual, IMO.

Never had broken ribs, so I have no "wisdom" to pass on there.

I pray that your ribs heal quickly and completely, Bill.
