This morning when I went to the hospital pharmacy to drop off my med forms. They had a area sat up for those that wanted information about eating the right foods. It was geared toward diabetics and others. They had doctors and diabetic educators there to answer questions about making the right food choices. I and others were asking questions about eating the right foods to help keep our diabetes under control. this women comes up to the group that was asking questions and say to us " I watches Dr Oz and I eats a lot of vegetables and fruit and that is why I am not a diabetic. I just looked at her and like said to her even those that eats only fruits and vegetables can become a diabetic. She looked at us like we are diabetics because of our lifestyle. I feel sorry for peoples like her that thinks that she know it all. The educators told her that she was wrong about her infomation and she say thats not what dr oz says. I think that if you don't know what you are talking about keep it to yourself.

The only problem there was, she thought she knew what she was talking about & then still thought she knew what she was talking about cause Dr Oz said whatever & heaven forbid that whatever he said was wrong or she interpreted it wrongly.

A little education can be a dangerous thing.

I have had people that i work with that will criticize everything that i put in my mouth. OH! you can't eat that because you are a diabetic. it is the old adage that you can't have any sugar at all…but then I say, well carbs are turned inot sugar and they look at me like I am a beast with two heads… One lady one time looked at me that way when I said that I had to limit/cut out potatoes and white rice. her comment was ,"why, they don't have sugar in them". my comment was to remember high school chemestry, and that your body turns carbs into sugar…she had that"deer in the headlights look:…not a clue as to what I was talking about!!
so you need to educate those around you!!

Poetic justice would be if Miss Know-it-all were to develop diabetes anyhow, in spite of her "healthy" eating habits. (Some fruits contain LOTS of sugar!) Although I wouldn't wish Diabetes on anyone, I'd like to see how she would react, not only to her developing the disease but to someone like her dishing out the judgmental drivel she gave to you!…sorry…I'm not being very charitable, am I??

I think she only listened to half of what Dr. Oz said because I watch sometimes and I've never heard him give that kind of information. I know he never tells the audience diabetes is caused strictly by lifestyle. He has said it is a factor… but never said it was the only way. I really get annoyed at people like her. I'm a nurse and I have had people argue with me about the causes and treatments for a diabetic, it really gets funny sometimes. I wonder if she thinks young children are diabetic because the mother didn't eat her veggies when she was pregnant? LOL…O and those 'know it all people' never ever keep it to them selves!

It's good she took the pamphlets. Maybe after being told some things different from what she believed to be true, she thought she better get her facts straight.
One can only hope. :)
