I would first like to thank every one who sent me some answers.I finally got my husband to go to the ER and then follow up with his DR. He is now on 2 different types of Insullin. Now we have to work on his diet and exercise.If anyone has any good recipe please let me know and what is ok to have and what isnt good to have…once again i want to thank all who reached out to help me!!!

I post the recipes to most of the foods I eat on my website. Just visit and look around a bit. Good luck. This is what helped me a lot.

Feb 2009 I was diagnosed with a fasting blood sugar of 366 and A1C of 14.1. Started to eat a salad every day at supper. Also started to eat lots of low carb vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, cucumbers, spinach, pickles and sauerkraut. Started to drink 8+ glasses of water every day.

I then bought a meter and started to test my blood sugar before and after each meal. At first I was testing 2 hours after each meal and when my numbers dropped a lot I started testing 1 hour after meals. I was testing 5-7 times a day. I cut back or eliminated foods that spiked my blood sugar more than 50 points after eating.

By testing I found that foods like bread and most foods made of grains along with pasta, rice, corn, potatoes, oatmeal, cereals, chips, crackers, cakes, cookies, candy, soda, fruits, fruit juices, milk and most foods that contain more than 5-6 net carbs per serving as found on the package label all spiked my blood sugar. Some people can cut back on these foods and some people like me have to stop eating them.

After about 6-8 weeks my blood sugar readings were almost normal levels. After 7 weeks I quit all meds and my numbers continued to get better and better.

I found by reducing and eliminating high carb starchy foods helped me a lot. By adding small amounts of chicken, beef, pork or a hard boiled egg to my meals helped reduce blood sugar spikes also.

Hi. I'm so glad he got help! I've found some wonderful diabetic cookbooks on ebay and amazon! They were only a couple of dollars each and have wonderful reciepies! They even have desert options! They have many titles to choose from! I bought several cookbooks and just love the recipies! Best wishes and God bless!

Really, bajwaacd diabetes is NOT a one size fits all kind of a condition. There are general guidelines you may use, like not eating whites: potatoes, rice, bread, sugar (cauliflower is ok)

But to really tailor his eating to fit his own personal body needs, he needs to eat to his meter. To do that he needs to take his Blood Glucose numbers ("BG#s") and before he eats, and then eat a single portion of a single food (at first)
He can find out what a portion is considered for a particular food by going to http://nutritiondata.self.com/

2 hrs after he eats that food, he takes another BG# test. If the 2nd number is 50 points higher than the first BG# you can either cut the portion in half and test again at another time, or choose not to consume that food or drink. Write down the results of that test in a notebook so you both can remember the results later. Go through everything he would like to eat and test this way.

Another help to him is to eat what he eats. I hear diabetics complain that their no diabetic spouse eats whatever s/he wants without regard to spouse's feelings. Don't stock in the pantry things he shouldn't have because if it is there, your hubby may be tempted to eat it. If you HAVE to have a treat, go out by yourself and have that treat.

These are ways to support your hubby as he battles his diabetes.
