stumbled upon this article here on DC: http://goo.gl/vC86br
It's about a recent study comparing the effect of eating 6 small meals a day vs. 2 large meals. I was a little surprised by the results although that is closer to the way I eat on most days.
Your thoughts?

Are you including breakfast?? Smaller meals are better. It's portion control thing.. And I don't use reg sized plate either, use side smaller plate. Works good for me. Thing about diabetes, what works for one person might not work for another unfortunately

Hi Pat,
Personally I tend to only eat once or twice a day. Today, for example, I ate one large(ish) meal at 3 pm. and will probably not eat again until noon tomorrow. I have experimented with various meal routines and this one seems to work for me as I do not go 'hypo'.
I will find out soon as to how it is really affecting my BGL's as I am scheduled for complete labs next week. I am hoping for a 5.6 or lower A1c.
As you said what works for one may not work for others and I would definitely not recommend my 'diet' to any one else.

(that large(ish) meal was a little over 100 carbs (hey, it was our anniversary meal) and checked when I got home 3 hours post prandial BGL was 91)

It's interesting how some people feel better eating more frequently, and others eating fewer meals/snacks. I wonder if it comes down to paying attention to individual hunger and fullness signals instead of eating by the clock or habit or other non-hunger reasons? ~Lynn @Glucerna

We eat a small breakfast, Lunch is our main meal, with a light meal or healthy snack for Supper. It works for us.

I think 2 meals is the way to go, for me at least. I found that eating the recommended number of carbs 3 to 6 times a day made me feel bloated and full all the time. And prior to being diagnosed I only ever ate 2 meals a day. Then the switch to the diabetic diet and I started to gain weight immediately.

This is how my husband eats. He eats about 2-2.5 meals a day. I know before I was diagnosed I ate considerably more, but have found that when I eat a good breakfast, it will carry me through comfortably until about 3:00 pm and then if I eat "linner" I am good for the rest of the day. I may go back to eating that way, instead of trying to eat all day long like the diabetic plan suggests.

Just remember what works for you may not work for someone else. Any one ever hear of a book called 'Eat Right For Your Blood Type?'. Peter D'Adamo, MD is the author. It is one of the books I've found to be of great help. It tells you what foods you should and should not be eating according to your blood type…

by blood type?
somewhere between 40 and 50% (varies by ethnicity) of the worlds population (about 3 billion people) are O positive and there for should eat the same diet … kinda blows the "what works for you may not work for someone else" theory doesn't it?

I'm actually thinking this may be the way to go, though for me it would be 3 decent meals, not large or small.

I started doing the 6 small meals when I was first diagnosed since that's what I've always been told however my numbers when eating that way would go high.

Just by chance, I was running around a few days in a row and just couldn't get all the meals in and noticed a considerable difference in my numbers. So I started only eating 3 meals and I have much better numbers doing it that way so I stuck with it.

Steve most days I only eat two meals per day. Especially on hot humid days like today. I do a big breakfast and a big dinner early in the evening.

you know … there are some things I miss about the DC area … humidity is NOT one of them though.
We're supposed to hit 108 today, but without much humidity it really isn't bad as long as you can stay in the shade.
