Hi, I'm Jeanette
I have been living with diabetes for 15 years and like many of you I am here because it is nice to know that there is someone else that knows what you are going through. I was diagnosed when I was 11 years old. Not only was I at that awkward preteen stage where no one is sure of themselves, but to add on a chronic disease to deal with, it made my sense of self pretty shaky. It doesn't do any good to get mad or to just not care like I did as a teenager. But over the years it just became who I was.
Something that I have found is that once I decided to take charge of the disease and no longer let it control my life, I became empowered. I started noticing how to stay on top of my diabetes control instead of it being a burden continuously on my shoulders. Diabetes is a part of my life, but it isn't what controls my life. I am.
