Taste Bud changes?

Maybe it’s just me, but since I cut out the sugar it seems like other food seems tastier, or it seems like the same food I used to eat seems to have more taste/spice/flavor than before. I’ve never heard of diabetes affecting the taste buds. Ei…

I have noticed that artificial sweeteners don't taste as bad as they used to. I still remember how bad the aftertaste was before I was diagnosed, but as soon as I started taking medication for it, the "diet" foods tasted better. Now artificial sweeteners don't have any bad aftertaste.

My RD told me that salt and sugar dull the tastes buds and when you go off both, your taste buds return. That's been true for me too.

I don't think our taste buds change, but our mind changes.
This is why we get addicted to the sweet taste of things made with artificial sweeteners. They fake us into craving sweet or carbs, and since we try to be "good" about avoiding sugar, our brain says, "okay, how about some other carbs instead?" Frustrating!
It is so true that when you cut out something, the thought of it is revolting after a while. Fatty fried foods gross me out now. The trick is not to give in to what we THINK we want. Because if we do it a couple of times, before you know it you are back into the fight again.
When we eat balanced, and we crave a certain a thing, usually it is our body saying that it needs something. Just keep it in check.

when I was told I had to cut salt pretty much out of my diet, I pretty much did. Now, I have no taste for slaty foods like olives, chips, etc. I feel like I licked a salt block. Same with chocolate. I have gone so long with out eating it, that if I do, I feel sickly. Our tastes do change. That is why when you get old, you like certain foods over others. Your sweet tasts go last.Figures!
